West Alabama Family Practice and Sports Medicine

I have been a patient for Dr. Buettners since a was 5 years old. He has always been kind and caring, big smile one his face when he walks in the room. I stopped coming when I was about 20 because I never got sick and would just go to a doc in the box on the rare occasion i did. Fast forward to Jan of this year I got a horrible rash on my face. I went to 5 different doctors including UAB ER. I was told I had something different at all of them. The medcines they gave me didn't help my rash. I was finally approved as a patient again at dr Bs office and the angel of a Nurse Practitioner, Olivia Wright, told me she thought I had Staff Infection on my face. So many Dr's got it wrong!! She was the only one who sat down and listened to me! I will forever be grateful to this office! The staff is always so nice and they care about their patients

I have been going to this practice longer than i can remember, as they took me and my family in as patients when my pediatrician passed away unexpectedly. I adore Laubenthol and Lacey, I've never once had a bad experience with them and they always provide very personable care. However, over the last few years, the office staff has really lost my respect. I don't know what the problem is, but from this point forward I'll be finding another primary care physician. I took off work today from the NEW job I just started, and made sure that Brenda knew this was the only day I could come as I had other important obligations to do later in the day. I got there in the pouring rain and ran in to make it to my appointment on time, only to find out I was scheduled for NEXT Wednesday! Talking on the phone with Brenda to make this appointment was like pulling teeth anyway, as she seemed to not want to be bothered, and it took forever for her to take me off hold to speak with me. I'm done, I've reached my limit in trying to get people who are supposed to aid in providing health care to care about my health care needs.

I’m at loss for words right now. I went to an urgent care after my throat closed in on me and I almost passed out for unknown reasons. My blood pressure was also very high. They told me to head to my primary care which is here to have a full work up as it didn’t appear to be an allergic reaction but something was definitely going on. I immediately called and started driving here as I knew they close early on Fridays. When I finally spoke with the scheduler for Dr. Laubenthal, she told me that they couldn’t see me until Tuesday. I explained the urgency but she did not care so I walked into the office and asked to speak to someone else. They sent me back to her. She appeared to go back and talk to the doctor and then told me to go sit in the waiting area. After waiting for 30 minutes, still struggling to swallow and breathe properly, a nurse came out right at closing and said the lady just gave her the paperwork and they can’t see me. She spitefully held the paperwork until close while I sat out there waiting and struggling because I tried to go around her. I will be calling Monday to speak to someone over her. Absolutely no care for someone else’s well-being. I’ve been very satisfied with the doctors but now I don’t think I can ever come back here.

We have been using these doctors for 20 years and all of the staff and doctors we have dealt with are very caring and professional. We mostly see Coty and Dr. Buettner and have always been well pleased with their great attitudes and caring nature. My wife has many health problems so we see them monthly and they always take the time to address her needs and listen to her problems (which isn't always easy for me to do, and I love her).

Craig Buettner, Debbie, Barbie & so many of the other loving and genuine employees, have been taking care of my family of six for over ten years! They are so professional and loving to our children, husband and I! I will never switch Dr.’s! They work tirelessly to make you feel safe and sure of your diagnosis❤️ We love them!

The practice is completely unprofessional. The office staff is rude. On Thursday, August 3rd, I called into this practice to schedule a new patient appointment for my spouse. Immediately, when phoning in, I asked for a new patient appointment. I did not have a preference in doctor, so she transferred me to a scheduler. The scheduler answered, and I informed her that I would like to make a new patient appointment. Immediately, she states that I had to come in. At that point, I informed her that I was just told by the previous person that I could make an appointment. She asks me who told me that, I did not know as the previous caller failed to identify herself, and I did not ask for a name. Once she asked around, someone finally owned it the transferred called, and immediately stated that she did not tell me that I could make an appointment. From there, Brenda (as she did identify herself) comes back to the phone and begins to apologize, and I say thank you, but I will find another practice as that individual in background is rude and unprofessional. After ending the call, I opted to call back and obtain the individual's name in the background. I immediately asked for Brenda, and when she came to the line, I asked her for the individual's name. She refused, but did place her on the call. This young lady was uncivil. She called me a liar (saying that she did not inform me that I could make an appointment). She began to debate with me on the specifics of our called, and refused to provide me with her name twice when asked. I asked to be placed back on the line with Brenda, and at that time she ended the call or placed me on hold without any notice that she was doing so. After waiting for 5 minutes, I ended the hold, and called back. At that time, I was told that the administrator was in a meeting, and then transferred to someone else who asked for my name and number, and nature of my need for an administrator and/or office manager. After explaining, I learned that this individual sat next to the uncivil office staff, and she began to reiterate the situation back to me as they hoped I would agree it happened. After asking her to please have someone in a managerial role to call me back. She told me that they wouldn't call me back, and that I was not wanted as a patient. As a responsible citizen of the state of Alabama and city of Tuscaloosa, the lack of professionalism by this 'family practice' is alarming. It should not be supported or truthfully exist within the community. I will do everything within my power to make sure this practice lack of is known, and fully investigated. If I was treated this way today, as an interested patient, I can only imagine how current patients and/or interested patients are treated by this uncivil staff. I cannot attest to the professionalism of management or the physicians, but I truly hope this is not a representation of what happens at this practice. I would never go here! However, I will stop by on Monday to see the Office Manager as this interaction must be known.

My family and I have been patients of Dr.Buettner's for over 20 years. This is a calling for him and you can see it in his care. We’ve also seen other members of the staff when Dr.B isn’t available, and they are all kind and caring. There’s an air of humility and service for the patient “in the air” there-kind of like the aroma of Christ! A+ !!!

I love Dr. Laubenthal and entire staff go above and beyond for my kids. He has talked to both of my kids not only about their health but about how to be good humans. Love him and his assistant Yolanda Goodman. Best by far!!
