If you're through the VA to come here, make sure that your referral has this specific CU clinic name on it and the name of the exact provider....otherwise you'll drive all the way up here and be refused care. Specifically Dr. Kummer won't see you unless its done that way. Even if it has just the clinic name, that isn't sufficient.... also doesn't matter if this clinic is a UCHealth network location. Make sure this is all correct otherwise you'll waste your time and be refused care immediately....even when the appointment was made weeks ago and this could have been handled between the clinic-UCHealth-VA as its an administrative issue.

Rudest front desk staff I have ever encountered. Don’t work in healthcare if you aren’t a pleasant person. I have been in the healthcare field my entire life and I would have been fired if I was as rude as the staff at Steadman Hawkins. Don’t waste your time here. If you need a good orthopedic doctor make the drive to Frisco or Vail to The Steadman Clinic. You are treated with kindness and compassion from the front door all the way to the doctors, like Dr. Backus, Dr. Godin, Dan Woods, and Dr. Cafferky.

I have had amazing experiences with everyone (medical and support staff) at this clinic. Unfortunately that is overshadowed by a billing issue that just seems a bit sketchy to me (and the representatives at my insurance company are amazed as well- and they have called CU Medicine as well). I was given CPT codes for preauthorization, and those codes are written in my medical file as having been sent to my insurance for pre authorization. And it says Authorized. Nothing was deviated from the service provided, yet for some reason when billing insurance a modifiers was added to the CPT code they billed. Insurance will not pay until the modifier is taken off, but they have sent an explanation of benefits stating my patient responsibility is $0. CU Medicine has also confirmed they have this statement, yet they continue to bill me. It has been more than a year and countless hours on the phone. I even tried to ask the provider to intervene, and was simply told, “I don’t handle billing”. How do you justify preauthorizing a code (noted in my medical file) and billing a different code even though the service did not change (and not fixing it when the problem is brought to your attention, yet giving no justification for the change)? I am basically done with trying to get it fixed, but it sure overshadows what has been a very positive experience for me otherwise.

Every doctor I’ve seen in the orthopedic practice have been exquisitely, talented and gifted, and also steamed by their own peers as the best of the best when I had to go outside of the clinic for insurance purposes. I was so happy with my doctors here that I actually looked within the UC Health and see you medicine to find my primary care and a few other specialists I needed. All of them have been excellent. I’m very happy I’ve to consistently find exceptional doctors and staff in an increasing arena of mediocrity.

Dr Mayer has been treating my knee problems (surgery, injections) since 2021 and I am being forced to switch to a different office. They changed something with their process for getting knee injections. I had an MRI over a month ago and I have been trying to get an injection scheduled. I have been given the run around and was told that I have to call a specialty pharmacy and purchase the medication myself and have it shipped etc etc. I have been trying to follow their process, but then I find out that the pharmacy doesn't even have the prescription. I called and messaged Steadman 5 days ago about this and I'm still waiting for a reply. Once the pharmacy gets the prescription, its another "five to nine days" for them to receive the item! In this time, I have found another knee surgeon and I have me appt and injection scheduled this afternoon. Sadly, Steadman is a mess and my opinion is that they focus on the quantity of patients that they see over the quality of the medicine and service they provide.

For any working veterans out there: Be sure to tell VA Community Care or your PCP to send you here IF the VA itself is taking too long or overbooked. Not only are the services prompt, the physicians effortlessly went directly to the source of my pain utilizing all of the imaging tools and therapy sessions already conveniently available within the facility, saving me energy, less stress, and able to return to work sooner than anticipated!

Every staff member at UC Health Foot and Ankle clinic is kind, patient and professional. They treated me as though I am valued and appreciated. When I met Dr. Hunt, I was extremely impressed with his great confidence, wonderful attitude, thorough explanations and opinions and his patient, intent attention to my questions and concerns. This is a long, lost trait that is difficult to find in a doctor today! Because my first experience at UC Health was so positive, I feel happy, comfortable and calmer about proceeding with all of my treatment there.

I had previously worked w another ortho specialist and gone through a surgery process - that could not remotely compare to the great bedside manner, communication, kindness and genuine nature of every single member of the team I interacted with here. The facility itself is gorgeous and clean and every staff member is helpful and kind. I worked with Dr Mayer and her team, and I felt incredibly safe and comfortable throughout every single step leading to surgery. Day of surgery itself was a lovely experience. I was really scared but they put me at ease and listened to me intently no matter what. I felt like the most important patient in the facility the entire time I was there and that is a great way to feel. I would recommend this place to anyone!! I had seen 3 other ortho specialists while deciding to move forward with surgery and many still hold strong to archaic surgery practices and stuffy bedside manner. Steadman Hawkins was the exact opposite from the moment I walked in for a consult. Everything is smoother and more advanced and I feel like I got the best possible care I could’ve in the the metro area.
