Our teenage daughter needed immediate residential care. We were referred to Turnbridge and told "this is the only place I would send my child" by a professional in the field. We reached out to the intake team and received the most welcoming and detailed information about the care provided to their patients. Matt was amazing and helped facilitate care for our child during the hardest moment of our lives. While at Turnbridge our daughter benefited greatly from the therapy, psychiatrists, nurses, structure, and staff at the facility. We were able to visit her every weekend. This was a huge part of our healing process as a family. The work is hard but the end reward is worth the hard days. I would trust Turnbridge again with my daughter. The growth she has made and skills learned while there have truly made a difference in all of our lives.

My daughter was at the Killingworth facility over the summer. I'd first like to say that if the client is unwilling to participate in their treatment and spends every waking moment being defiant, disruptive to the group and wasting their one on one therapy time trying to negotiate their release, there isn't anything any treatment center can do. The Killingworth facility is a beautiful place, I will give them that. They have a pool, horses, exercise room and nature trails. It looks very inviting on the website too. But here's what's hiding under that beauty. The pool is unheated and freezing cold, you can feed and pet the horses and clean the stalls at certain times but not allowed to ride them. You have the same meals every week with Chinese and pizza on weekends. My daughter lost a lot of weight she couldn't afford to lose because she is a picky eater and hated the food. Visitors are not allowed to bring any food. The staff added an eating disorder to her diagnosis because of that. There seems to be a very high turnover rate among therapists. For my daughter's first two weeks she saw her therapist who was also the clinical administrator that had just started once formally and once informally. My daughter asked to see her multiple times but she was too busy with her other duties and wound up resining after 2 weeks. My daughter did get a new therapist by week 3 who was brand new to Turnbridge that she did like. The therapist tried like hell to help but by week 9 after the initial insurance authorization was up, we were told she was being discharged. Turnbridge basically gave up. So what did 9 weeks in residential treatment accomplish for my daughter? It made her worse than when she was before with added anger and resentment. She was exposed 24/7 to 15-17 other girls who are all struggling, mean, bullying, stealing personal belongings, fighting, giving each other jailhouse tattoos and all the other wonderful things one in an incarceration type setting would learn. The drama there was relentless... Most of the staff was nice and I guess they try but they can only do so much. Many of them are in "recovery" in one way shape or form themselves. For the first few weeks, calling the facility got you an answering machine where you had to leave a message that wouldn't be returned. After numerous complaints Turnbridge did provide a number that would be answered by a staffer on site. I guess Turnbridge is one of those things where what you get out of it depends on what you put into it. I will say that your daughter will be safe there. The staff is always watching even if the girls' think they aren't. Yes, fights do happen on occasion and there is no tolerance for it. Everything is on camera and it gets reviewed.

I'm having a really difficult time understanding how there could be a single negative review of this place. Many of the reviews on here seem to be fake or simply from disgruntled past clients. I was a client here a few years ago, and attending Turnbridge was literally the best decision I have ever made. It saved my life. It forced me to slow down and taught me that I was worthy of a purposeful life. The staff at Turnbridge truly care. They go above an beyond to make sure that the clients are comfortable and most importantly safe. They work here because they care. The clinical and psychiatric staff challenged me like no other providers had in the past. I was in and out of therapy for many years, but never genuinely engaged with a clinician until I came to Turnbridge. The clinical team challenged me to look inward. They helped me rebuild my relationship with my family. I learned how to be a good son, a good friend and I learned how to be a productive member of society. I built lifelong friendships during my time at Turnbridge. Yes, the program comes with a price tag (as does literally any reputable long term treatment program). But it was the best investment my parents ever made.

Turnbridge is an excellent facility with caring, well- qualified staff. From the initial intake thorugh treatment, staff was professional and compassionate. I appreciated updates on my son's progress during his time at Turnbridge.

We sent our son to Turnbridge in Connecticut and found the program to be solid. A key component is that the process is family driven, so you will need the entire family to buy in. I think some of the negative comments involve a "set it and forget it" approach which is not the design here. You will get out what you put in. Everyone here was very nice and supportive.

Went to turnbridge for mental health not substance use or addiction. THEY ACCEPTED ME FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH. 3 days in I had an incident and they sent me right to the er and called my parents to come get me. I was kicked out for something I was meant to be there for. Why would they even accept me in the first place?? It’s literally a residential for addiction which I did not have. The staff was horrible, Jackie was the worst clinician ever. She called me manipulative the first time we meet. She was so mean to everyone. I liked Allie though. But yeah this was when it was co Ed. Those kids who were there with me did not do good. Half of them had already been to turnbridge but came back. Isn’t it supposed to help ur recovery?? They would just keep us there and we barely had groups. It was mostly hanging out. Also we had to literally prove ourselves to call are parents. That’s insane, how come they don’t let us just call?? It’s not interfering with treatment if they aren’t giving us good treatment. I’m just mad that they let me in for my mental health and sh and then kicked me out for it. It’s crazy and I don’t recommend coming her for mental health issues because clearly they can’t treat that. They want ur money. If I could give it a zero star I would.

Is there anything worse than finding out your kid is in trouble and NOT knowing how to help them? When we found out my son was using drugs we were shocked/surprised/scared/angry/worried and confused. Confused about the array of options, the different facilities, the insurance stuff and who would best be able to help. I am grateful every day that we chose the Turnbridge boy's adolescent program in Woodbury, CT. They made us feel confident from the first contact with their professionalism and calm. They did what they said, they called when scheduled. They proved from the start that they were committed to my son's treatment. I believe that the time he spent there saved his life. Every single staff person who interacts with the kids is respectful ,kind, and genuine. The clinical staff is excellent. The facility is gorgeous - clean, safe and homelike. They treated my child as an individual, not as "another client". They were completely open and transparent with us and kept in excellent contact. We had wonderful family sessions where we could see how our son was growing and changing and how we could best support him. He went onto another facility for aftercare - and THEY were impressed with the communication from Turnbridge and the work that my son did while there. I can only say, if you are hesitating, know that I would not be writing this if I didn't believe it completely. We could not be happier with the choice we made.

Turnbridge is one of the most remarkable places. The staff go above and beyond to support and encourage. Their knowledge, experience and most of all compassion is helping to change my son’s life. What my son has gained from his time at Turnbridge is life changing. He is learning coping strategies for anxiety along with strengthening his self esteem and identity as a young man in this complicated world.
