I'm not one to give reviews but I don't want another family to experience what I did with my father. Please don't place your loved one here if they are aging or have dementia. They are not equipped nor trained with dementia patients. My father was hospitalized for one month at Scripps hospital (who were wonderful) with aspiration pnomonia and recovered from his illness. His next step was rehab. I chose the Springs for his rehab after seeing the facility. My father was supposed to have one on one assist with his feeding due to possible aspiration and never received it. The food that was prepared was inedible. The one on one assist did not occur and dad ended up with aspiration pnomonia again and is currently at the hospital on palliative care followed by hospice. He was only at the Springs for one week and this happened. On Friday my father was in distress and told me he couldn't breath. I approached his nurse and told her my father couldn't breath. Her response to me was "I'm finishing with someone else and I'll get to him next". My father couldn't BREATH. I would have dropped everything if I heard a patient couldn't breath. She didn't seem to feel it was important. Shortly after the charge nurse called 911 and the ambulance came and transfered him to the hospital. He also developed a UTI. They do not check to see if a patient needs to be changed. During the week that he was there I visited every day and night and my father always had a dirty diaper. The rehab is good. There isn't a set time for your loved one to receive it so if you want to be part of their rehab, plan on staying there all day because you never know when they'll receive it. I am very, very disappointed in this facility. They're short staffed and do not have good bedside manners. The cna's seem to do all the work and they're constantly running around because they don't have enough staff. Again, I do not like writing negative reviews but if I can save one family from going thru what I went thru, then it's worth it.

I was sent by El Centro Regional Hospital for August the 7th and was set to room 214B! My roommate was a a delight her name is MaryEllen Jordon! She just started to come out off her room to go to crafts and maybe do some painting! What ever they had to paint. The staff here at this location is very caring and understandable to all of their patients’ needs! This facility and staff took care of my mom and her health really well. The location is also really beautiful for patients to exercise around as well. The staff is very respectable and they will treat you and your family with the best care they can offer!

Not sure how they received their 5-star accreditation because we experienced one problem after the next — and never getting a resolution (just giving up) with my dad’s 30-day stay. Horrendous communication from care staff and Drs back to family. Nothing is ever explained and proactive communication is non existent. I couldn’t even get a returned phone call from case management staff on multiple attempts. They finally sent a care conference and the woman showed up almost 30 minutes late and then had to rush off after only 10 minutes so she could make her next meeting. She promised me answers to a bunch of questions and never followed up. Related, when my dad said around in the same clothes for a week, I let her know and she suggested we file a grievance and she would get it started. But again, she never took action. All talk with empty promises. When I finally complained to the Director, Mike he listened but ultimately took no action, didn’t fix the problems, and he didn’t seem to genuinely care. It almost came across like he hears these complaints all the time and he knows patients just get discharged and he doesn’t have to improve the quality or fix the problems because they don’t get repeat business —- and unless there’s gross negligence, who cares. Borderline incompetent and unorganized staff who only do the bare minimum — my Dad sat for a week in the same soiled clothes. TWICE!!! We had time consuming and ridiculous errors regarding my dad‘s medication‘s at discharge. Spoke to Frederico who is supposed to be one of the nurses and he was not helpful whatsoever and actually just kept making the situation worse and was to g everyone’s time. I ultimately had to get on the phone with the pharmacy delivery company myself and resolve the problem even though this was his job. During my dad‘s stay for basically what equated to arthritis, he was pumped full of OxyContin daily so that he could go to PT for 30min. He would’ve been fine on Tylenol and given his history which I clearly explained to the physician at admission, my dad loves the strong stuff but he doesn’t need to take it. Yet they still prescribed it. Upon discharge when I told the primary care doctor they were giving my dad OxyContin for this condition, the primary care doctor was flabbergasted. The place itself looks ok on the outside but it is so dated and dingy on the inside. What a depressing place to spend a month in rehab. And sadly, my dad pretty much laid in bed all day and all night until they came and got him for a couple therapy sessions most days. In the event care like this is needed in the future, I will do more research and find a better facility and not just allow Scripps hospital to transfer my dad on a whim. If your loved one ends up here, all I can say is you must, absolutely must, show up daily and micromanage everyone providing care. Find out what is happening, when, ask tons of questions and demand answers. They need to have eyes watching them otherwise they do absolutely the bare minimum (and less than bare minimum most of the time) and elderly patients cannot advocate for themselves.

Our Mother went from the hospital to this facility for rehab. They were suppose to do 2 hours of PT a day. It was 5 days a week, not daily and for only 45 minutes. The rest of the time was atrocious. The rooms are not cleaned or disinfected well. She had no shower for more than two weeks, just bed baths. There are no showers in the rooms. When she finally got a shower the room they took her to was not heated and she was shivering when they brought her back. One nurse to a floor and lots of student nurses who did not know how to get her from the bed to a wheel chair. They even left her in the bathroom unattended. How they have 4 1/2 stars is beyond me. Stay away from this poorly run facility.

My grandmother, 88, broke her hip and ended up at The Springs for about a month after her surgery for rehab. Obviously, things are tough with COVID restrictions and worries right now, but the team at The Springs made my grandmother feel completely comfortable and taken care of, and they communicated with me throughout on her progress. Before we moved into the purple zone for restrictions, they were doing their best to coordinate for family visits outside socially distanced, but unfortunately had to stop that as mandated by the state - which, if it helps to keep my grandmother safe, I'm all for it. My grandmother was in good spirits every time I spoke with her and was very touched by the little things the staff did that made a big difference. It's very difficult not being able to be there to support your loved ones during a difficult recovery time, but the staff really stepped it up to create a comfortable environment.
