The Floortime Center - Bethesda

The Floortime center is truly one of a kind. The traditional therapies our son received prior to coming to Floortime treated him as if all the "behaviors" he was exhibiting were due to a lack of self-control and stubbornness and thus needed to be corrected by negative and/or positive reinforcements. It did not work. When they told me "it will get worse before it gets better" I knew I had to terminate those therapies. We knew our son could do better. We knew he was trying to communicate and couldn't (in the way we wanted him to). We knew there was a missing link and yet, even as a professional educator for young children myself, I couldn't figure out how to engage him. He didn't "fit" the stereotype of an "autistic" child as our previous therapists would say. We visited Floortime from California last year and within a short two-week period, he improved tremendously. He was relaxed, happy and truly engage-able. All of his sensory needs, his verbal/gestural communication deficits, and his social-emotional needs were addressed with the same approach. All of his therapists worked together and truly cared for him, and our family. We understood therapy is often a challenging journey and that it takes time. We moved across the country in January 2022 so our son would continue to receive the help that he needed, and we could be led in the best way possible to support the therapies at home on a daily basis. As soon as our son began to feel comfortable at the center, we saw him blossom. He is making so much progress. We're thankful he has the opportunity to be understood, helped, cheered on and challenged to be the best that he can be.

The Floortime center is a good place to help kids achieve social-emotional developmental goals. Any child at any stage can benefit from the therapy services provided here. The therapists are qualified and caring, and they all communicate with each other to ensure they work towards the same goals. I would recommend this center to help your kids work towards and meet developmental milestones.

Our son has done nothing but achieve and progress since coming here! This is a pediatric specialty practice, which has under one roof all disciplines of specialists who can effectively treat Autism Spectrum Disorder in a relaxed, child-centric enviroment. The staff is delightful, nothing but supportive and responsive in all forms of communication. I echo the previous review, that if I could rate it higher then 5 stars I would!! We can never thank you all enough for what you've done for our family! God Bless you!!

Was not a good experience for us. We were there few years ago. She (therapist) was many times late for sessions and sessions were then short. My son, though, liked the play area and the swing.
