Spellers Center Tampa

We saw Dana for an intensive, because my son has been doing the Spellers Method for a year and a half but has been having trouble finding the letters on the board. Dana found that holding the board higher and slowing him down would allow his eyes to catch up with his brain. She has a good understanding of how posture, muscle strength, vision, etc. combine to determine success or failure in using the letter boards, and she gave advice on exercises that could achieve our goals. Her advice was very helpful!

My daughter and I traveled from out of state to attend a 2 day intensive at Tampa Spellers with Dana Johnson. Overall it was a good experience and we learned a lot in a short time period. My daughter needed to adjust during the first session, I appreciated Dana's patience during that time. My daughter did very well during the follow-up sessions and is still doing well with spelling at home. It was worth the investment and trip. I look forward to learning as much as I can from Dana and the rest of the Spellers community. I think we finally found our tribe!

Our 7 year old autistic, nonspeaking son has been receiving services at Spellers Center Tampa for about 18 months now. He has made slow and steady progress since we started working with Dana and Melanie. Every session we work on getting his body engaged in purposeful motor with the goal of him getting more regulated and in control so that he can learn to Spell to communicate with us. The work he has done at this amazing center and his growth have us feeling energized and hopeful for the future - what a gift! He now has begun his journey Spelling, and we will be forever grateful to the amazing practitioners and staff at Spellers Tampa. Thank you for everything you do and for giving families hope and direction - your work is priceless!

Spellers center is by far the best place we have received services for our daughter. Dana and her team are knowledgeable and passionate about what they do. Not only did Dana get us started on our spelling journey, she taught us the importance of building ocular motor strength, creating a brain-body connection, and presuming competence every step of the way. Our daughter loves coming in for her sessions, and we always walk away feeling a little more confident. We've been through a lot of different services, and nothing has compared to spellers center

I took a chance or so I thought and brought my 19 year old nonspeaking son with DS to the speller center. I was not certain of what to expect. Dana showed me through using the SPELLER method with my son that he is indeed very smart and there is so much more to him than your typical "expert" would have said. I watched with a skeptical eye at first, but I quickly saw that it is truly my son spelling out these words. I learned so much more than I anticipated. I finally understand my son in ways I truly did not think I ever would. And now the future is so bright knowing that someday I and everyone else will get to know his thoughts as well as he improves. Thank you Dana for all of your amazing insight!

Our daughter is 13, and has tried many different approaches and tools for communication over the years. We have just started to introduce her to the Spellers method, and already she is engaging with it. It feels like the first time we’ve ever had a solid path forward. Thank you!!!

We found Interplay (Dana Johnson) through referrals from a pediatrician and from another family who has a daughter that Mrs. Johnson treats. Not knowing our son’s diagnosis until much later, we struggled for what seemed like an eternity and did not know which way to turn for help. Our 5-year-old had many of the symptoms indicating autism, but we avoided dealing with it – mainly out of fear. Dana Johnson is incredible and through her work, we have been able to make a connection with our son that we’ve longed for unit now. She has been able to ‘unlock’ his thoughts and although he cannot speak verbally, he is now communicating and we are learning that he is an incredibly intelligent boy. Our son struggled with not being understood, not being heard and unfortunately, people assume that these kids are mentally handicapped but they aren’t…they just cannot put words together to speak like ‘we’ do. I am so happy and so relieved to have found this clinic and that our son is able to get the help and therapy he needs. Mrs. Johnson is also affiliated with a school which specializes in working with kids who have autism. We will be looking into this program next year. I only wish we would have found Dana sooner! Interplay Therapy Center is amazing! My daughter's sessions at Interplay have made a more significant difference for her than any of the many other therapies that we have tried over the past several years.
