I herniated my L3&L4 disk in February ‘24 to the extent that it caused intense pressure on my spinal column/nerves that I lost my ability to have bowel and bladder control. I could not sit, dress myself, walk, sleep without excruciating pain. After a midnight trip to the ER I was placed into the care of Joshua Maddox who done a disectomy/laminectony of the herniated area and I have had no complications since. Not even two months after that surgery I fell in my yard (due to a massive swarm of bees) and broke my (R) humeral head in four pieces to which two of the bone pieces separated and spread apart from the humeral bone. This cause ligament damage as well. Joshua Maddox admitted he couldn’t help me with that injury and immediately referred me to Dr Chitwood. After a CT scan, I was advised of the severity of my arm injury and I required reconstructive surgery with a possible risk of necrosis. I had a first surgery with installation of alloy parts with screws to hold the bone in place and six months of intensive healing and physical therapy. After six months I had limited movement in the shoulder/arm so Dr Chitwood preformed a removal surgery this past October and I have since went through PT again and regained nearly 100% of the use in my arm. I praise Chitwood and his staff for everything they done during what was a more traumatic time in my life aside from my back because loosing use of your dominate arm for over eight months is highly frustrating. I would definitely trust SB&J, Drs Maddox and Chitwood at any time for anyone!

I have never had a problem with the doctors here. Both me and my son have seen them several times. Different doctors all professional and helpful. Front desk ladys could be nicer. But not bad.

I had a great experience today at Southern Bone & Joint. Everyone I came in contact with was extremely pleasant & attentive. From the receptionist, to the lady who took me back to be seen, to the guy who did my X-rays, to the nurse practitioner (Candice Long). I was 10-15 min late for my appointment, and they STILL got me in & out within an hour. They seem to have super efficient & streamlined systems for seeing patients. Candice was very thorough while assessing my shoulder and didn’t make me feel rushed. She listened intently and explained everything thoroughly. It was an overall refreshing experience.

Wife had an appointment at 12:30 for physical therapy. They called to confirm the appointment and the time but told us to be 15min early for paperwork. We showed up promptly at 12:15, did the paperwork, and then sat down for 40min before asking the front desk. They stated that our appointment was for 1300 (current time 12:56). Someone came to get her for therapy at 1309. We shouldn't have to sit in a chair for an hour before even being seen. get your scheduling figured out and stop wasting people's time, most of us have taken off work to try and recover so this doesn't help your clients situation.

Chitwood is the most inconsiderate, money hungry, egotistical Doctor I've ever met. First visit he stated that MRIs are extremely inaccurate. After telling him my symptoms, he swore it was only carpal tunnel syndrome and he didn't even explain my MRI results. Second visit, he stated he had no idea what was wrong with me but plays with my finger and said it must be the tendons in my hand then turns around and says again that he can't do anything for me because he has no idea what was wrong with me. Sent me for a second opinion in Troy with Dr. Liljeberg (after attempting to send me to Hughston Clinic who doesn't accept medicaid). Dr Liljeberg's Nurse Practioner did a detailed pain test by pressing on different parts of my wrist/hand and explained IN DETAIL (from MRI results) what injuries I've received. Now, I have to go ALL the way to Birmingham UAB to get treated. He only wishes to get paid and not help Medicaid patients who desperately needs it. He will gladly help if you spend thousands for his service. Worst human being I've ever encountered.

In 2005 I had lower back surgery and 2015 I had Neck surgery. Amazing doctors and staff! In 2021 I found out I had torn my biceps, the right side. I live in PCB and the only place I trust was the doctors here. After having the right one done, and a great job they did… I had to have my left bicep done. Another great job! ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Love all the Doctors and staff here.🙌🏻

I have felt the physicians my husband and I have used at both Healthwest and Ross Clark have been very competent and are very pleased with their care. However, customer service is so bad it doesn't even deserve a 1 star. Patients have a life also with commitments and to be on hold 30 plus minutes to schedule an appointment or to pay in advance for a procedure is not acceptable.

Dr. Chase Smith has treated our son throughout his high school sports career with pulled ligaments in his ankles and hand surgery due to a broken finger. And, again, most recently due to a motor vehicle accident causing a broken ankle. He has provided excellent care each and every time, and we would highly recommend him for any orthopedic care needed to anyone.
