Find another facility, please, especially if your loved one is elderly. My mother's first week at this facility landed her into the ICU at Athens Limestone Hospital. She was there to regain her strength and mobility. Because the Nurse Practitioner "made a judgement call", as the regional administrator stated, to not have her urine tested for infection, she became septic with the infection that was indeed present in her urine. This NP disregarded an initial request from an observant nurse who saw her urine needed to be checked the first weekend she was in the facility. Her caregiver and I both showed the nursing staff an issue we observed with her urine. She begged and pleaded with a night nurse in her room the night before she was found ill to call an ambulance because she was sick. Mama even offered to pay for the ambulance if they would just call one. This nurse told her no, an ambulance would not be called, walked out and shut the door. Mama was found the next morning critically ill. The administrators, both local and regional, and the regional nurse, all tried to suggest that our mother's mind was bad and that no such conversation took place. We know it did. They said no staff member recalled talking with her about this. Of course they wouldn't. Who would admit denying a patient the right to be taken to the hospital? We almost lost Mama. By the grace of God, she has recovered enough to go to rehab again although she has been set back even further because of this most serious illness. Needless to say, we will never again have a loved one admitted into this facility.

DO NOT send your loved ones here if they have cognitive issues and cannot advocate for themselves. My mother was there to rehab a broken leg. She is 80 yrs old with dementia. She was non weight bearing on her broken leg. Her FIRST and ONLY night there, she was not able to call for help to go to the restroom because her call button was broken. No one was checking on her. She had to slide out of the bed and crawl on her belly to the restroom, pull herself up on the toilet then had to crawl back to the bed and pull herself up on the bed. She called me early the next morning to tell me what happened. My sister went up there and documented the red places on her knees and elbows where she had crawled and also the bandage around her cast was pulled from dragging her broken leg. My sister spent the day talking to staff and trying to figure out why this had happened. They lied and continued to lie. I went to spend the night with her the 2nd night so that I could care for her and I was told that I could not stay the night. I had them call the administrator and he also told me that I could not stay the night. I was NOT going to leave my mother there alone. I had to pack her up and bring her back home. They tried to get me to sign a AWA form but i refused to sign it unless I could write my statement of what happened, which I did. Then they refused to accept it. I preceded to load my Mom in the car myself and take her home. So just beware if your loved one cannot advocate for themselves.

Disclaimer: I never met any of the employees prior to my stay here. The Restore Therapy group of physical and speech therapists were all caring and professional. They provided therapy seven days a week to include holidays. After major surgery with all the tubes removed the speech therapists taught me how to eat and think correctly without choking. The large therapy room allowed me to work out over an hour a day. There were also a series of simple exercises to restore my confidence in standing, walking and climbing stairs. Very cheerful, smiling faces greeted me every day. Terrific team of therapists. Restore Therapists: Parker, Kaitlyn, Hillary, Becky, Holly, Pam, Nathan Restore Speech Therapists: Kaitlyn, Elizabeth
