Peterson Rehabilitation Services

In 2017, my husband suffered a massive stroke that put him in the hospital for 5 months, and left him with severe deficits on his left side. The staff at the neurological unit in San Antonio recommended that he begin his road to recovery at Peterson's Rehabilitation Unit in Kerrville - it was ranked as one of the best. We started at Peterson's Acute Care Rehab, which we needed because my husband still had acute medical needs. They started him on rehab for several hours a day while he was in the hospital. Then we migrated over to the out-patient center. We're so happy we took that advice! Peterson's rehab is top of the line when it comes to expertise, equipment, and protocols for stroke recovery and so much more. When I went there, the staff asked me about our goals. I told them I wanted my husband walking and moving his arm again. "Nathan," our physical therapist, took me for my word and in less than 8 weeks, had my husband back on his feet after almost 6 months of being in a wheelchair. "Zach," our occupational therapist, spent tedious hours working with my husband's arm, which he can now use to pick up a coffee cup. "Amanda," his speech therapist, got him started with reading again, which he is now doing on a regular basis. If you are uninsured (as we were), do whatever you can to pay for these services for as long as you can (they offer a discounted rate for uninsured). I honestly feel that we would not be where we are today if we had not started my husband's journey at Peterson Rehab. They are terrific, and rank right up there with those centers found in larger urban areas. For the Texas Hill Country, it's the only place to be!
