I contacted Pain Free Performance for my injured right shoulder after meeting Dr. Chris following one of his movements & stretching seminars at my gym (Rock City Complete Fitness). Previously, my shoulder doctor sent me for an MRI that showed "at least two partial tears". So they scheduled me for surgery. One week before my scheduled operation, I became extremely nervous about the surgery after my surgeon told me, "We won't know what's wrong until we get in there and look around." and "The recovery time will be "about" six months!" WHAT!? I called Dr. Chris the next day and he asked me, "Are you able to lift your arm over your head, even with some pain?" The answer was YES. "Work with me for a few months and let's see if we can keep you out of surgery". I canceled my surgery with the ortho dr and signed up to see Dr. Chris once a week for the next 10 weeks. Each week I would receive evaluation, treatment, and coached exercises during my office/gym visit, followed up with "homework" exercises that worked on strengthening my shoulder and increasing my range of motion (YOU MUST PUT IN THE WORK PEOPLE!). During those 10 weeks, I went from having difficulty moving a 5 lb. weight around to near 90% of my pre-injury range of motion and workout weight maxes with little or no pain; I learned how to manage and/or modify any workout to accommodate or work around any shoulder soreness I did have; and MOST importantly, I did NOT have to have an unnecessary, costly, operation that would have put the healthy progress that I had already made on hold for six months. I am thankful for Dr. Chris and the time, energy, knowledge, and patience given to me to help me heal my shoulder naturally and for a lot less than a costly operation. I would recommend anyone with nagging injuries or workout pains to give Pain Free Performance a call.

I began working with Chris in April of ‘22 after my 9 mo post op visit with my surgeon who suggested I find a skilled PT/trainer! I went to him because I was struggling with pain from my surgery and needed to be taught how and what I could physically do with the new hardware in my spine and scar tissue that formed around the hardware after a 7 hr spinal repair, clean up and additional fusion! Chris was great and helped me gain the confidence I needed to workout and use weights again! He helped me understand the pain I was left with and did PT treatments that helped me gain more mobility! Chris is very patient and compassionate but will push you to do the work to get results which is what I wanted! I can’t recommend him enough and feel so blessed to have found him!

I started going to Dr. Chris for an old ankle injury. I was unable to run, jump or properly squat due to poor mobility in my ankle. After just 5 visits I was able to run short distances. I noticed my squat was getting better and by my 8th session I was able to do box jumps. I still have a way to go with my ankle mobility, but he got me back to my normal workouts. He really takes the time to talk over your goals and put together a plan to get you back on track. I highly recommend Dr Chris.

I originally started working with Chris for some tendonitis in my shoulder. It woke me from my sleep and kept me from doing any overhead movements during my weightlifting. I met with him for six visits over a period of a couple of months. Not only did he teach me exercises to heal my shoulder, but in following treatments we worked on strengthening and protecting my shoulder. Chris went above and beyond to not just adjust my form but strengthen my weaker areas in my shoulders. I'm not exaggerating when I say, that following his treatments my squat snatch personal record increased from 95 to 115 lbs and my clean and jerk increased from 120 to 140 lbs. I can definitely credit this to working with Chris, through strengthening my movement and drilling my form he not only increased my strength but ALSO my confidence in these lifts, setting me up for success in my lifting work. I will definitely be going back to him for any issue in the future and can't recommend him enough.

I caused a shoulder injury during the Crossfit Open in March 2021. I also have some issues with my right hip, where lifting from the floor caused cramping and major fatigue. Chris did a great job assessing my ability and what needed to be done to make my right shoulder and hip stronger without pushing me too far too fast. I went from barely being able to do workouts with anything over my head to holding items over my head without pain. I can even squat with full range of motion now. I have lots of tools to able to make it through workouts without injury!

I had a major shoulder injury that required surgery. The prognosis one year post surgery was to leave it alone and do not use it anymore than you have to in an effort to prevent a replacement at a younger age. I went to PT for 18 months with minimal progress. Then, I met Chris. I was blown away with how different his approach was. The success I experienced under the direction and training of Chris is hard to put into words. I am so grateful for his attention to detail and creative training. I am now back in the CrossFit gym every week with the kind of movement I never expected to have again.

I have worked with Chris for the last two months for a lower back injury and shoulder pain resulting from overuse. Chris was professional, listened to my needs, and asked about my goals. He performed a thorough evaluation and developed a treatment plan that not only immediately provided immediate relief but also set me up for long-term success. My lifestyle is active and weight training and CrossFit are part of my routine. Chris developed my treatment plan around that. We focused on proper bracing to protect my core and lower back. Then, he helped me improve my technique on all the major movements. Thanks to Chris, I am operating without pain again and able to engage in all of the activities I enjoy. He has helped me develop a better feel for my body and my capabilities and set me up for long-term success. I would recommend Chris without hesitation.

10/10 cannot recommend Pain Free Performance enough! Before working with Chris I was avoiding any kind of overhead/shoulder workouts. I had shoulder pain and limited motion that had just become standard for me over a few years time. Honestly, at first I was concerned that PT was not going to be enough considering the daily pain I experienced. I’m so pleased with my results— the relief I felt even after a few sessions was huge, but then gaining strength and mobility in my shoulders (but also my back + core) has been such a big deal. Now I’m more confident in the gym, I have a better understanding of how to care for my shoulders long term, I don’t skip a gym session because of inability, and I continue to have relief from the discomfort I carried for years. I’m incredibly grateful!
