Northwell Health Stern Family Center for Rehabilitation

I am so disgusted at the poor treatment for my mom. The first time she was here was great. Few months later horrible. Ignoring her for hours. Blowing me off when I called. They skipped her dinner one night. Getting somebody in just to help her with getting her into bed or getting medicine was a ordeal. We going find a better rehab in the future if needed.

Rehab area was clean but the rooms were filthy and the nurses would take their sweet time coming when you press the call button. I think my mom contracted shingles from that place and the on duty doctor was not able to diagnose it.

Make sure before you leave you understand and get everything you need. Because once you leave it’s like you don’t exist. They throw their hands up and tell you to go to your doctor. The hell with the prescriptions they prescribed. Have a question. Nope. Have to talk to your doctor. Uhh Dr Alam. Nope he will rush you off the phone. Or answer your question and yell at you. Completely unprofessional. Wish I knew how bad earlier. The nurses are great. But that’s it. You do not have the support where you need it most.

Rehab is terrific but overall the facility is incredibly short staffed when it comes to nurses and aides. Family members usually have to seek out staff as call bells go unanswered for long periods of time. Things that are ordered by the drs such as for a pt to wear compression socks daily are often not put on when they are short staffed unless the pt or family members remind them frequently to do it. Family members or pts themselves even have to ask for basic things like having a pitcher of water and cups by the bed. The place would be that much better if there was more staff.

This is the terrible place to be in. Specially cheryl and other nurses and Cna's. They won't give patient the medication. You won't get your food on time and won't get what you ask for. I wish I could give 0 stars. Cheryl is the worst.

There were some negatives about this rehab and some positives but what stood out was Delores Walton! She took such excellent care of my mother and she is truly a blessing to anyone she helps and cares for in this facility. She is so pleasant and nurturing my mother felt extra good after being cared for by her. There should be a lot more like her in Sterns Rehab and all the patients would truly benefit! Sadly, there’s not many or any one as dedicated, caring and qualitative as Delores.

I arrived at Stern in severe pain after being in the hospital recovering from breaking two bones in my leg. I was unable to use my leg for six weeks. However I was given physical and occupational therapy during that time. I found the nurses and CNA’s to be terrific, especially nurses Pat, Sasha and Ermine and CNA McQueen and Martine. Physical therapist Daniel and Occupational therapist Camille were wonderful. They all made me very comfortable. My stay at Stern was nothing short of terrific. As a matter of fact I hated to leave and miss them all very much. I received excellent care and attention from everyone. I will say I think the people in charge of food need some improvement. I found that my requests were very rarely addressed, but I realized that I was not at a hotel and the food did not matter that much. I believe it is more important to receive good care and good therapy which I certainly received. I definitely highly recommend Stern.
