The experience with my dad has been entirely a disaster. He went there for subacute rehab first of all the facility had him for a month did not follow up on doctors appointments inconsistent reports about his progress. They told us he was walking 100 feet when we picked him up, he could barely walk 10 feet, the social services Director is totally disconnected from what’s really happening on the unit and only reads you the report from the therapist not actually how he’s doing functionally on a day-to-day basis Just what the therapist say in addition, they did not follow up on his medical appointments for over a month. They had him sitting in a wheelchair with his bag, packed his lap at 7 o’clock in the morning we had arranged for three days to pick him up early for a long drive for relocation near my brother No one helped him discharge. There were no instructions. They had my sister-in-law sign a piece of paper and take him no medication instructions. Nothing was given. This facility is certainly lacking in care for the elderly, and in fact, I would consider it an organization that commits fraud we asked for a mental competency evaluation, and because my father could tell who the president was, they did not perform one and despite multiple request, he was behind in his bills his taxes living in feces could not remember who his daughter-in-law was, but they refused to do the competency evaluation. We removed him from this organization due to inadequate care and disjointed communication to the family responsible.

REHAB Review - NHC is divided into two sides: Rehabilitation and Long Term Care. 4 stars are given not 5 stars because private rooms were not always available during the long stay and roommates can be difficult. Our experience was with the Rehabilitation unit where our Dad received post surgical care. The rooms were carefully cleaned using strict Covid requirements. The staff was compassionate with both Dad and the family. There would be too many people to thank, but the care we received from the dietary staff, nursing aids, therapists, nurses and facility management staff was thorough, competent and goal oriented - to strengthen Dad and give him the needed skills to be able to go home. The food was good and plentiful, and an around the clock grill menu was available. Because of the hard work done by the NHC team, Dad was able to go home and spend his final days with loved ones, and we were able to assist with his care due to what we as a family learned from the NHC caregivers. Thank you all so much for your professionalism and dedication to patient care.

While two nurses were wonderful, our rehab experience was nothing short of a nightmare. My husband was treated as if he were in a prisoner of war camp. Cold food, unrecognizable food, Staff that told him what to do despite being told he couldn’t do these things, forced to have unneeded occupational therapy, staff that refused to let him take care of himself when he could. A roommate who watched tv so loud I couldn’t hear my husband. When we called the director to discuss the many issues, it took 24 hours to hear back. We are not sports fans. All the director could talk about to my husband was his football career tragically ended by some injury. My husband couldn’t get out of there fast enough. The last award this place got was in 2015. Sadly, it has a higher rating than any other place in the area.

Everyone at NHC Garden City has been wonderful taking care of my mom ( Joanne P ) she resides in the North Wing and Cheryl , Joanne & all the staff on North Wing are professional, caring with my mom who can be difficult to handle at times due to her Alzheimer’s disease. Simply put tje staff are angels & we are grateful for them

Place smells of urine, my father left to sit in wet clothes because nobody would take him to the bathroom. Supposed to go for rehab no clue if PT done. Demanded personal care paid for separately because horribly understaffed. Aides have an attitude and are not pleasant at all. Walking the hall saw nobody all residents in their rooms ALL the time. I took my pet to a kennel that was better staffed, more homelike and friendlier than this dump

-1 star. My grandmother lived here for a long period of time. while my grandmother always made the best of things and made friends this was not a good place to live. I can recall many times where she waited hours for someone to help her get up in the morning and sometimes not getting out of bed until 2pm. She also had to wait hours to urinate or be forced to urinate on herself because she could no longer hold it. While she was there and tried to remain as active as possible while depending on staff that frankly did not want to be there and would say derogatory things to her. Fortunately there were a few friendly staff that gave us a ray of hope whenever they worked and we knew she would be taken care of that day. If I had been financially in a place that I could have quit my job and taken care of her I would have. Look elsewhere if you are trying to find a place for your loved one. and pray for the residents here. I reported multiple times to DHEC about there staffing issues and nothing has been done. If I managed this place If I did not have enough staff to take care of residents I would stop accepting new residents and I surely would fire anyone who did not care for each resident as family. Staffing laws NEED to be enforced.

Very nice place my mother has been here two previous times for rehabilitation for both hip surgeries. This is her third time to NHC. She said it was like coming home this time. Staff was very welcoming. Several remembered her from five years ago. Nice to see they had retained many of the same employees.

This place has been excellent for my father and our family while we have been here. Everyone was nice and did a superb job with him.
