Newport Academy NOT FOR ADOPTIVE FAMILIES Ashley S our therapist was late to every therapy session except the two she forgot completely. -My child PIERCED her NOSE, EARS and EYEBRPW AT NEWPORT. -She STOLE A POCKETKNIFE FROM A COUNSELOR. Why did a counselor have a pocket knife when working with kids? Excellent question. -WHEN WE LEFT EVERYTHING WAS WORSE in our family. we transferred our child somewhere she is finally getting help. The counselors at the new residential facility are truly engaged in the welfare of their clients, and it shows - my child is getting better! I consider Newport my 2nd worst decision as a parent. Newport all but destroyed my relationship with my child. Newport almost cost me my family. We were there summer 2024 Monarch pod PS - no psychiatrist stayed more than a few weeks. No Dorm Supervisor made it more than a week or two Therapists were immensely overbooked disaster if you struggle with adoption issues.

Newport Academy (CT campus) saved my daughter’s life. She entered with severe anxiety and depression. NA gave her a reset in life while teaching her skills to manage stress and anxiety. Newport is a beautiful, loving community with tried and true techniques to work with teens facing challenges in the world today. Our daughter was in several different facilities and NA was the best fit for us and where we found true results that have launched her into adulthood.

I had the privilege of staying at Newport Academy for two months, during which I had a truly transformative experience. The environment provided the support I needed to regain my footing and embark on a new chapter in my life. The opportunity to refine existing coping mechanisms and learn new strategies significantly contributed to my personal growth, allowing me to replace old habits with healthier behaviors and relationships. The staff at Newport Academy are exceptionally warm and caring, consistently going above and beyond to ensure that all our needs are met. I am profoundly grateful for the unwavering support and guidance they offered me and my family. The kindness and care I received will forever influence my journey forward. Newport Academy has instilled in me a renewed motivation to live a fulfilling and sober life, something I could not have achieved on my own. For this, I am eternally thankful. Thank you for everything. I love you all.

I have learned a lot in Newport Academy over the past 4 months and have become very attached to it. I always look forward to being there because of the amazing people I interact with daily. The job is professional, teaching me how to overcome challenges and become a better leader at home. I have gained more experience in addition to my previous role as a care coordinator. This job has shown me how to spread love, and I feel NewPort is like a second home to me.

I wish Newport Academy - Bethlehem had a therapeutic boarding school. The available options for young people and families for this kind of institution is very low. Newport provides excellent and comprehensive support for adolescents and for their families. It's a team of veru dedicated and high standards professionals. My loved one condition has required multiple rounds at Newport. Everytime we have found a welcoming team that goes above and beyond to meet our family needs. I highly recommend Newport for children dealing with mental health and substance abuse issues. It is the only place were we have confidence that our loved one can be for an extended period of time and be safe and well treated.

I first started at Newport Academy when I was 16 and stayed for 96 days. I will first start by saying that the pods are separated by “issues.” I find it to be very dehumanizing and violating. We knew everyone’s problems by what pod they were in even if you have never spoken a word to that person. Not only was it one of the most traumatic times of my life but also started a rapid drug problem which was never an issue before. I learned these behaviors from the girls in my pod. Even when i wanted to talk to someone other person than the staff i wasn’t allowed too. We get a 5 minute phone call everyday and we don’t get a recall if they don’t answer. It’s the worst feeling to know that you can only talk to the only people who seem to care for 5 minutes a day. I also remember during school time me doing a staff members continuing education modules many times. Not only has this “rehab” failed so many it failed me. I never felt so depressed after coming home from Newport Academy and i will never recommend or even mention this place. Nobody in this facility cares - they threaten with punishment and staying longer, leaving you to feel embarrassed and helpless. I self harmed every single day there and told nobody - i also was forced to stay in a room with a 13 year old trans male as a 16 year old growing girl. If you weren’t in a room with a 12 year old most of the girls were having relations in the next room over which you can hear while sleeping. After 2 years I am still recovering from the trauma that Newport Academy gave me. If you care about your children in the slightest bit do not send them here.

Newport Academy is a scam and insurance fraud, they lie about the therapy and medication management they provide, none of the “counselors “ are certified. Most “professional “ Work off site and never see the clients. They start off with good communication which last about a week, from that point on they know how much insurance money they will get for each admission when they have maxed that out they will complete an administrative discharge so they can “fill the spot “ with people who really need to be admitted. Keep your children away from this facility. Times may be hard and difficult dealing with teens but I promise you these place will intensify the problems. If you are mandated to complete family sessions and they say the child will Not participate (red. Flag) they give you scripted phone calls as well as the child{red flag) 5 minutes calls which they monitor and will end if conversation goes to tell the truth about what’s going on. They lie and deceive the child and the parents. During a mandatory parent support the sit in the session and offer little to no support just to supervise what the conversation will be like. So many red flags . So disappointed and frustrated. I will continue to inform any regulatory board, news station, social media and any other platform about this program. You will definitely need legal counsel to overcome!

This place should be shut down. It is a money grab and they condition residents for relapse or deterioration. They botched my ward's case so badly. The therapist Mareta Arena could not wait to discharge my ward. She and the rest of them weren't able to get movement with my ward at all so they rushed my ward out which would be ok but they enabled the child and sent them home with unrealistic expectations for example ridiculously extended bedtimes, promised on our behalf a new pet, an apple MacBook pro etc. And filled our child's brain with so much crap like advocating for themselves means not following rules and doing whatever they want. 6 mos after Newport we are still reeling from the aftermath of what they did with our child. Mareta Arena took the diagnoses from a 15 yo about themselves and told the parents (me) that the child does not have a problem. Clearly the child is not functioning due to the problem but Mareta Arena said it's not the case!!!! Lazy and incompetent. My child had never hidden things from us. At Newport, they were given advice that they don't need to tell us parents anything. Now the same child doesn't share anything with us, hides all activity and we have no visibility to their interactions and activities so our ability to protect our child from potential dangers is seriously compromised. I was communicating about all these concerns with Mareta Arena throughout my ward's stay there but she did not help or cooperate in any way. I have volumes of messages both text and email to Mareta Arena asking for meetings to work on a sensible transition plan and she totally blew us off. She should not be allowed to practice as a mental health professional. This place is callous and irresponsible. I contacted the owner Jamison Monroe and he put me in touch with some woman but in the end, we are left picking up the pieces of their lazy and incompetent team of therapists. They have apparently not taken any action against the negligent therapist Mareta Arena and her team at moose. I had no experience of this industry. If I had known better I would have preferred Hospitalization to Newport. I highly emphasize not sending your precious cargo here. I will speak to anyone against this place. Media. News, other parents. Legislators. Anyone. I am livid with the time and money we wasted and how much we are still struggling due to the damage they caused on top of what we had going on. I'm still dealing with our problems which is why I have not yet gone public with my grievances against newport yet.
