I want to share an experience that my autistic 14 year old grandson experienced during your trick-or-treat event on Monday, October 30th. The staff/volunteers that ran this humiliated, belittled and made my grandson feel out of place and unwanted. He does not understand that because he is big, people do not want to treat him with respect because he wants to trick or treat. My grandson had to stay home from school on Tuesday due to the way your team made him feel. He complimented the ladies that decorated the pumpkins, asked questions and wanted to be a part of the excitement. He noticed in the candy line how they were giving a handful of candy and saying how nice the child's costumes were for that were before him, but when he was next he was given just one piece of candy and was told to go. You would think that being a safe place for therapy would understand that kids with disabilities come in different shapes and sizes. I am proud of my grandson for wanting to trick or treat at his age. He still believes in Santa Claus, it is not our right to take away the innocence of the holidays. I just feel that you could have been more welcoming and inclusive. I am so hurt for my grandson. Hearing him and my daughter cry over how he was treated is so disheartening. You could have done so much better.
