I am a current patient at Golden Merced, I will recommend anybody to bring their family here if it wasnt for this place i wouldnt be walking. The admissions department and the whole staff are amazing they treat you like family. I am so thankful for the therapy department that help with my issue with my legs. I recommended this place with the bottom of my heart I will be very tearful when I leave home. The administrator went out of her way on Halloween and bought me some ears. Thank you Golden Merced!

My father was unfortunately brought to Golden Merced after a long hospital stay to recover. Upon his arrival, it was apparent that the care this facility provides is subpar. When the medical transport arrived with my father, no one knew what room he was supposed to go into, and when asked, the staff just shrugged and said “I don’t know”. The medical transport ended up just placing him in whatever room had an open bed. I had to go to the nurses station to ask them about my fathers care plan because no one came in to check him in. Half the nurses were just ignoring us until one let us know she’d have someone come check my dad in. At this point, my family and I already felt like my father was going to be disregarded here. My sister got in touch with the social worker to try to get him released into our care, but they assured us that he would “get the care he needs here” and that his insurance would possibly not cover in home care. I feel like this was told to us to keep my father there for them to charge his insurance for care that was never given. That first night he was extremely uncomfortable and he became unbearable, but eventually my family and I talked him into staying, which was our first mistake. 4 days after arriving at this facility, his blood sugar was allowed to drop to 50mg overnight. We had made comments to the nurses multiple times that his blood sugar was very low throughout the day, and it clearly fell upon deaf ears. He was delirious and nearly unconscious when paramedics arrived. My father is Spanish speaking and the only Spanish speaking staff member left the room when paramedics arrived making my father call my sister to translate at 4am. When my sister arrived to retrieve some items from his room, no one stopped to ask her what she was doing there or explain my father’s situation to her (this was still around 4am and not during visiting hours). On the doors to the facility, it states that all visitors must check in at the front desk, but during all the visits I made, the front desk (assuming it’s the one across from the entrence) was closed. They had residents just roaming the halls and one resident even urinated in a cup outside my fathers room as staff members looked on. If you love your loved one, please do everything to make sure Golden Merced is not an option for a convalescent care stay (unless you actually dislike your loved one, then by all means let the staff here “care” for them).

Don’t send your family members here unless you really hate them. The stars on google do not reflect the truth. I fell for it too thinking okay it’s 4.5 it can’t be that bad. It is bad. It’s clear they don’t have enough staff to cover the whole facility and they do not put any money into the accommodations. You’re basically paying thousands for a motel. I wouldn’t trust them to watch a dog Michael Robinson their social service director assured me my dad would be receiving physical therapy everyday he said that would not be the case if we took him home. That was the only reason he was there and he only got therapy once the week he stayed there. Michael doesn’t know what he’s doing. I asked him to put in a request with my dads insurance to do in home care and he asked me if I knew what forms those were???? The beds are extremely outdated. They look like they’re from 1980s maybe older. Compared to what’s available out there. They also use an antiquated scale. They said he weighed 140…he weighed 217… They also have either three to a room or two to a room. Poor security any one could walk in at any time. I walked in at 6 am and walked to the front desk to check in and the heavy set curly haired lady at the window did not even look up from her screen. I ended up just walking in. No one stopped me or asked me why I was there. He needed an air mattress due to his SPINAL surgery and we were told they would have to check if they had any or order one. I figured okay you weren’t expecting him this was last minute. I was later informed by their staff that they had known my dad was going to go there for two weeks prior. But I guess saw no reason to get the proper equipment prepared. He spent a night unable to sleep and in pain. I had to call 3 times to get thru to talk to a nurse. I would call and they would put me on hold and send me to voicemail. I had to repeatedly call to finally get thru. When my dads sugar was low he said the nurse just walked out of the room without even talking to him. I had to call and tell her he needed his sugar checked. It was at 80 and she told me that it was normal. When his sugar dropped to 50 he was able to grab their attention and get help. They ended up calling paramedics that night. My dad said that the Spanish staff disappeared when the firefighters got there and they had to call me to translate. When the firefighters had asked if there were any Spanish speakers no one offered. I walked in there at 11pm and no one stopped or asked who I was or why I was there. When they took my dad to the hospital no one walked up to me or offered any information regarding his belongings or his status. .

My name is Adrian Huerta , I have been working for Hylond for over seven years . I have to say I've enjoyed all my time with the company, I absolutely enjoy my job. I feel the Activities department is a crucial part of the overall care for our residents. Besides keeping the residents entertained, the department provides emotional, spiritual, and physical support for their well-being. I know, I go over and beyond to help and create the best atmosphere so that our residents continue to have a positive mindset. With this being said I love the fact that I get a chance to come to work and make a difference in someone's life for the better.
