I was informed that the entire operation in Opelika AL has one full-time RN on staff and none on call for emergencies. My daughter who was left an incomplete paraplegic post heart surgery is suffering some issues that need to be assessed by a medical professional. I called the Opelika office. Ashley, a very polite young lady told me that there was not a RN available to see her today and that she would speak with her Director and get back to me. She did that while I held on for about 7 minutes. The response was the same. Enhealth has only one full-time RN on staff so no one was available to send out to see my daughter and her recommendation was to take her to the ER. It was the most frustrating call and the most horrific response when you are dealing with a sick loved one. I expressed to Ashley that I am 70 years old. I am here alone with my daughter. I can't lift her up into the car, nor transfer her out of it. An ambulance is $1300 and that would be my only other option. Feeling my frustration, Ashley said hold on while she checked the LPN schedule to see if perhaps they could see her today. Finally she came back with the same response. I could sense her compassion but that did not help my situation. Your approach says that you work to decrease hospitalizations, yet you send her to the ER. I was incredulous! What is the purpose of HOME CARE if you have to go to the ER for everything? You continue to recruit new patients, yet I am perplexed as to how you can service that population with one RN and 2 health aides. Seriously, this is unacceptable. I only rated the 3 stars because of the awesome PT and OT component. They are top notch. Also, I would think that the Director would have taken the initiative to speak to the patient or caregiver rather than leave it to the administrative professional to "take the heat", although there was none because it was not her issue nor fault. More medical professionals are needed to manage a caseload this large with the myriad of illnesses and problems they may have. I am currently very disappointed in the care that my daughter is receiving from Enhabit.
