As a life time gym goer and someone who used to compete in powerlifting, I thought I knew it all. During my time working with Jay, he not only coached me in making my work outs pain free but also taught me and changed my way of thinking. He preached about longevity and how different muscles interact especially how certain muscles are overworked when some are lacking flexibility. I came in with an injured shoulder but I came out stronger than when I was competing with a better way of thinking. I'm glad I worked with Jay as I will take his lessons to heart moving forward in my fitness journey.

I cannot recommend Dr Jay and crew highly enough! When I started working with him, I struggled with a problematic hip that made many exercises uncomfortable and difficult to perform. Coming from a weight lifting background, I could see that training with heavy weights simply wasn’t working well enough. Before connecting, I followed Dr Jay online and resonated well with the intricate movements he would demo. I could feel an immediate difference… It was time to get started! Dr Jay took the time to understand my limitations and tailor a program that not only strengthened my entire body but also addressed my hip issues. His expertise, patience, and dedication have transformed my fitness journey, opening my workout potential to a whole new platform. After an eye-opening visit to my grandmother earlier this year, I decided to finally take my health into my own hands and follow-up on that long awaited physical therapy recommendation that my Doctor had prescribed and I ignored a year ago. Fast-forward to this year, when I reached out to Jason for recommendations, and he was gracious enough to offer his own services instead but rather than a traditional physical therapy, took a much more holistic approach that incorporated nutritional adjustments and strength training. These last four months with Jason were undeniably tough but inevitably life-changing. I’ve managed to lose 20 pounds during this time, and while I’m still a ways away from my healthy weight goal, Jason was able to instill in me the right mindset and knowledge I need to carry myself through the finish line. Throughout this entire process, Jason was responsive, thoughtful, and flexible to not just the program itself but also in the way he shared information and tutored us on how we should proceed. If a specific workout was tough or we couldn’t quite get the form right, he was able to substitute with something else! If we had questions about balancing protein intake vs. caloric intake, Jason was often able to show us a third way that didn’t need to sacrifice either. I strongly recommend Jason not just to anyone dealing with pain, but to anyone looking to change their life and adapt to a healthy new lifestyle. 11/10!

Before working with Dr. J, I was working through shoulder issues for several years. I've was proactive and tried everything from orthopedic massages, acupuncture, yoga, chiropractic, laser therapy, you name it. In my quest for a solution, I came across Doctor Jay's post on Instagram and decided to reach out. Doctor J is great at communicating complicated fitness topics such a relative intensity, giving suggestions if you are struggling to improve at a certain exercise such as the deadlift and he is always offering constant support in the form of video chats, calls or texts. I inquired about my shoulder and walked out with more knowledge about dieting, and gained a hype man. I no longer have the shoulder pain and clicking I once have thanks to the program. I also want to thank Dr. Jay for instilling the dieting concepts he uses to achieve weight goals. I feel more intentional in my decisions. I highly recommend having a conversation with Dr. J whether you want to level up your fitness or get back into it. He's got your back.

I am a longtime yoga teacher with extensive knowledge about anatomy and body mechanics. I am also a 50-something woman who has experienced a lot of hip and joint pain over the past couple of years due to both menopause and injury! Serendipitously, I found Dr. Jay. I was impressed initially by his videos, which exemplified his deep understanding of biomechanics; I knew I could trust him to really help me work through my issues. At our first meeting, Dr. Jay walked me through a couple of simple exercises that immediately relieved a little bit of discomfort, and I was certain this program was going to work for me. Over the next several months, I was humbled by all I learned from him. I often say that "we don't know what we don't know," and despite my decades of studying the body, I had never really engaged in strength training in this way, nor did I have a grasp of the neurological story behind the experience of chronic pain. This program is not a "magic wand." You have to be willing to do the work! Sometimes I found myself battling mental blocks, but when I was able to get past those I found tremendous relief and made so many new discoveries about my body and its capabilities. I actually LOVE lifting weights! (Who knew?) Aside from strength training and isometrics, Dr. Jay has expertise in nutrition, and I learned so many helpful tools to support myself with both food and supplements. The whole Pain Free Academy team (Dr. Jay, Laura, Dr. Sue May) was welcoming, supportive and so very kind throughout my months in the program! I am not usually one to engage in a lot of online conversation, but I found myself regularly using the app to communicate with the professionals and also others in the program both to receive and to provide support. I loved the feeling of "We're all in this together!" I really appreciated the uplifting check-ins, especially on days when I felt ready to give up. I actually fractured an ankle right when I was feeling at the top of my mountain! The team supported me through this and helped me modify my exercises over and over again to meet me where I was at. The individualization of the program while still feeling like part of a group was a unique and wonderful approach. I am grateful to Dr. Jay for all I learned and gained through this program. Highly recommended to anyone looking to relieve chronic pain, working through injury, or just wanting to get themselves on track with their fitness and nutrition.

As a trauma ICU nurse, I’m constantly moving critically ill patients using awkward body mechanics and sustaining back injuries/strains. I spun my wheels strength training my own for years, letting small setbacks hold me back in my training, or skipping exercises due to fear of injury. Dr. Jay had a vision for me from the start. His thorough assessment accurately identified barriers that even I couldn’t see were holding me back. He personalized a workout regime that works for me, and continuously evolves it according to any feedback I have during our sessions. Simply put, he has encouraged me to believe in my abilities and overcome my fear of hurting myself. He incorporates his wealth of knowledge into every aspect of training and has made himself abundantly available between sessions; an incredibly valuable tool for any obstacles I’ve faced. Over 90 days, Dr. Jay’s program has already had me confidently break 200 on my deadlift and squat for several reps when I never came close to it on my own. My body feels capable and more stable than it ever has, and I feel ready to face the physical challenges thrown at me by life. I look forward to continuing to work with him in the future. Dr. J is great and I would highly recommend working with him if you want to reduce your pain over the long term. I’m an avid runner, biker, skier, kitesurfer… anything outdoors, and I’d consider myself relatively fit for a guy in his 30s working a desk job. I decided to see a PT after getting frustrated with off and on knee pain & shoulder pain that I’ve just been dealing with over the years. The knee pain was getting to the point where I was starting to give up on running or just limiting it to < 3 miles and easy pace. So I sought out help. I’m super glad I found and decided to work with Dr. J because he was not only able to get me back running in no time, but was able to teach me why I was hurting and how I can make changes to my habits to never have this problem again. I’m now doing 5+ mile runs again with no pain and have flexibility back in my shoulders that I never thought I would get. He’s a super knowledgeable guy and won’t just simply give you some boring workout program. He’ll work closely with you to assess the problem in detail and get to the root cause, he’ll give you exercises through an app which progress with you and provide some accountability and motivation, and ultimately set you up with the knowledge you need for improving your body and removing the problem for good. Would definitely recommend Dr. J for someone who is wanting that extra bit of motivation, who is willing to put in the time and effort, and who wants to be pain free for the long term.
