Good doctor but billing and administrative processes are horrendous at UAB. They are so bad that it is probably best to avoid. In February, I went to an appointment and was charged a $35 copay despite my copay being only $10 for a preferred provider. I didn’t argue because I knew that would all be sorted out when insurance processes the claims. Once BCBS processed the claims, they confirmed that my copay should be $10 and I did not owe anything else. However UAB disagrees and refuses to refund my overpayment of $25. This is because they think I owe money for X-ray services received during the visit ($255). BCBS denied that, as X-ray charges are not owed under a preferred provider per their contractual agreement. This is further confirmed on the statement that UAB sent me where they didn’t charge me for the X-ray services and actually show I owed $10 for copayment. So I call and ask why am I not refunded for my $25 overpayment since I paid $35 on the day of the visit. They essentially say that they are holding my overpayment until the X-ray charges are figured out. This is absolutely ridiculous when both BCBS and UAB’s own statement say I don’t owe anything for those charges. It sounds like they are in the process of appealing the BCBS denial and are holding my overpayment in the interim. This should be illegal as I have never received a bill or been officially charged for the X-ray services, because they can’t charge me for them. It’s insane. I have called at least 5 times, been lied to every time, and my emails are now being ignored. BCBS has sent the denial response, explanation of benefits, and talked directly with UAB Billing on a 3 way call explaining that I don’t owe anything further and that UAB owes me a refund. Despite this, UAB is still holding my overpayment for ransom. Holding someone’s money because you think they MIGHT owe something else in the future even though you have been told they won’t owe more is about as crazy as it sounds. Unethical and shady business practices. I have spent months trying to get my money back, being polite the whole time. However, I have been met with scorn and disrespect every step of the way.

Dr. Carter is wonderful. He's very knowledgeable. He shares my care plan and goals. He takes time to explain procedures and medications. The office staff is also great here.

Very long wait times to get an appointment. Once I finally got one, he spent most it counting to 4. Telling me repeatedly that I had to go to “1, 2, 3, 4!” PT appointments before insurance would cover an MRI. I will say that he was thorough with imaging, but extremely condescending to me. Not sure if it’s because I am a young woman or if he’s like that with all his patients, but I felt disrespected regardless. Also had to sit in the exam room for ~45 minutes for a total of 3 minutes face time with the dr. Ridiculous. Office seems way overbooked. There were at least 12 other people in the waiting room with me.

This man took a lot of money from me. Told me I would need 2 nerve conductions which he said would HAVE to have surgery. IT HAS BEEN A YEER AND NO ONE HAS ANY IDEA BECAUSE THESE DOCTORS WHO REFER EACH OTHER APPARENTLY DO NOT EVEN SPEAK. Never contacted me back. Nor, did Dr. Chambers ever follow up with her patient. Furthermore, I do not take pain killers so do not even try that excuse. Pure negligence and now it will be public. Do your job because I will not stop until I get my money back, an apology or just media attention. Dr Chambers and Dr Carter need to be accountable for this negligence. Apologies for the rude message but you deserve it. This medical situation was dishonorably and not in good faith. Thanks for making my hands looking like this.

I would highly recommend Dr. Carter to anyone that is in pain from back, or neck. He is very concerned about his patients especially when they are in a lot of pain.
