Just quit my job there for 2 time. This place is absolutely horrible to work for or through the health care services group, Whose contracted there. To not only feed the residents but to help clean the building. I work for them both in dietary aide and as a floor tech as well. They tried to transfer me to another building because of a relationship I was having and was very discriminatory on that. Also if you are a jew or any type of christian believing or like myself belong two one of the Abraham religions. Best not to apply here for work. Furthermore Today's date is 12/01/2023 I was rehired as a floor tech, 11/27/2023. Not only for my certification in the field but because it was a different department and as I mentioned above according to health care services group couples can't date in the same department. Well the floor tech is part of house keeping. Yes, long story but we could work together again. I know how sweet. Well, I began my new job as a floor tech 01/27/2023 Yes I lasted 5 days. Because the nurses who work with Genesis lie and mistreat anyone whose not a director or has a fancy degree. I literally quit when my manager Amanda wouldn't stand up for me when them nurse's were lying on me about a wet floor sign. Yes, believe me i know that's how dumb they treat us. This place is absolutely horrible to work for. They mistreat thier residents as well. Horrible place to live or work. And the director david grimes is only person who cares about the place but even he thinks low of you and puts his nurses on pedestals. So there is literally no consequences when they don't keep the golden rule and respect people. Bottom line is don't work here and don't send your relatives here to live. Absolutely not.

Cottage of the shoals has been a true blessing for my family. We’d had mom at a different facility before coming here and to put it kindly, the previous one was somewhat lacking. The nurses & CNA’s are truly awesome. It’s be hard to pick out just one to praise because everyone has been above & beyond. Thanks for being so kind to mom. She loves it here.

Cottage of the Shoals is a wonderful facility. The campus is always clean and the employees truly love caring for the patients. There are always plenty of activities to offer the residents a fun and well-balanced social life. The director, Cheryl Baker, does a phenomenal job of ensuring that Cottage of the Shoals is a safe and inviting place to care for our loved ones.

This place is a blessing for my family. Everyone has been so caring and attentive to my dear uncle. He has been there about a week. I cannot say enough about dayshift! I have only had one issue with a lady who works nights. However, this lady is a temp employee who was only there for a check. I spoke with someone, and we have had no trouble since then. It only took one time to complain and they addressed our issue accordingly. The staff is caring, friendly, and I would recommend this place to anyone with loved ones who aren’t able to care for themselves and need a little assistance. Taylor, in admissions, Has been a blessing and one of the most Genuine people I have met. He helped me with any and everything. Great job cottage of the Shoals, keep up the superior work and thank you for all you do ❤️ 💜

We are beyond disgusted with this facility. My terminally ill dad who fell over a month ago at home and had to go into here had multiple falls while being a resident here. It wasn’t the falls that bothered us as much as they would not do anything to help us prevent them such as fall mats or better rails on the beds. We know falls may occur, but precautions can be made to make them rare. They finally spent 30 minutes after the second fall trying to find mats and were able to locate one to place in his room. Instead of washing his clothes, they tied them up in plastic bags and threw them in his closet while they were soiled with feces and urine. On multiple occasions, I would walk in to him almost screaming in pain and staff standing outside his door not doing anything until I arrived. I would then have to remind the staff to give him his scheduled medicine which is not something I as a family member, or any family member should have to do while their loved one is being cared for. We would be told how agitated and restless he was, but they wouldn’t be giving him the medicine he specifically has prescribed for that reason. On October 10th, I asked when the last time he had this medicine was, and they told me it was on October 5th. When we transferred him, they sent him almost completely naked to the new place. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone, If you’re able take your loved one somewhere else.

We knew that Heritage Woods would be the perfect place for my dad. Sure, his meals, medicine, laundry, medical needs, rides, social acitivities, etc. are all taken care of. However, this all happens because of the STAFF that works at Heritage Woods. ALWAYS there is someone to help us to help my dad. Please know that concerns or questions are addressed readily with follow-up if need be. EVERYONE is willing to help and EVERYONE is so pleasant in doing so. My dad is a part of their "home" and you do feel like home upon entering - a peaceful place to be. You feel the joy!

UPDATE 2: Never heard back from them. So I doubt there will be anything else to say. I took Mom to a rehab in Florence and it was the difference between night and day. Never again will I put any of my loved ones through a Cottage of the Shoals experience. Hopefully they change, but I have little hope. UPDATE 1: Love the canned response. I had already contacted their compliance department and have a case number. I also contacted the Alabama Department of Public Health who is following up. The parent company, Genesis Healthcare, has a timeline to issue a report. Sad that they can only offer a canned response. I'll update again as this thing moves along. Left my mother without medication and a manager yelled at my parents. I found Mom in serious pain and Dad in tears. I have a complaint filed with both the company that owns this place and with the state. I will update if I hear anything but don't go here if you are in pain or you have a serious medical condition. Avoid if you love your parents. We are changing facilities. Such a shame.
