Community Health Mettowee

My husband, my son and I all attend this practice. We have always been able to get urgent appointments quickly, we have all received excellent routine care as well as excellent diagnostics, referrals and treatment. The staff is friendly and caring. The office is clean and efficient too.

I absolutely love Clara (PCP) and Becky (Therapy); they work with me collaboratively to achieve my mental and physical health goals. The support staff here are lovely and helpful. The space is clean and well lit. I’d recommend them to anyone!

My entire family goes to Mettowe Health, from my 14- year old to my76 year old mother.We love Dr Ayla she is amazing.I love the fact that she is calm and listens attentive to her patients. My teenager has no problems speaking to her about anything be it mental or physical that is going on with her. In this day and age it's tough to find good health care and caring doctors. Thank you Community Health Mettowee for the last 15 plus years of caring for our family. A really special thanks to Dr Ayla for just being you.

After making an urgent care appointment for pelvic pain that had been going on for months, it took almost 2 weeks to receive notification of my test results, all of which were negative and cost over 600$ after insurance. There was no follow up and I was still in pain. I called to make another appointment and was told it was going to be three weeks until they could get me in, only after protesting was I able to get an appointment within a few days. I realized once there that I was not scheduled to meet with a doctor for the now complicated case of chronic pelvic pain I was having, but a Physicians Assistant with only two years of actual medical training, who was NOT a specialist in women's health. (I also found out later that PA's cases are not reviewed by a superior after only 7 months, which is horrifying). For a "Family Health Center" to not have a women's heath care specialist is misleading and irresponsible. I had to have my mother, a medical doctor, explain to the PA the treatment that was needed for me, and get her to cancel yet another series of tests that were already conducted that cost me hundreds of dollars out of my pocket. I am lucky I had someone to advocate for me while I was too frustrated and in pain to do it myself. I worry for the others who go to this so called "family health center" and do not have someone like that with extensive medical training to advocate for them on their behalf. I would never recommend this health center to anyone who can go anywhere else.

Ayla Carr, my current provider at Mettowee Health has been a fresh of breath air. In the mist of my constantly chaotic life she has shown such significant compassion and empathy. Ayla and the staff at Mettowee do not make me feel uncomfortable or unworthy if I happen to miss or be slightly late to one of the umpteen appointments I have had scheduled. They make me feel welcomed and valued as a patient. Ayla actually listens to me, to my thoughts and needs. She doesn’t just dismiss my opinions and she listens tentatively as I lose control and pour my heart out. I have had nothing but positive experiences sense I transferred to Mettowee at the beginning of 2021.

This clinic is good for routine maintenance, but if you have something seriously wrong with you, you’re better off driving to Castleton, or elsewhere. Mettawee has several problems. For starters, they are understaffed, which can come across as rudeness from the other reviews I’ve read, though I think they are doing their best. Their best is just not great due to lack of resources. The few doctors that they do have on staff are either unavailable most of the time due to the extremely high demand for quality professionals, or they have very narrow experience from which to draw, and will treat everything like Lyme’s Disease whether it fits the bill or not, and throw weeks of doxycycline at it. Conditions that the rest of the first world is knowledgable about, and treats with anti-inflammatory steroids, they will treat with Doxycycline, because they don’t know what else to do, and if you ask for a referral to a specialist to try to overcome their lack of expertise in any particular area, they are very slow in getting back to you, if at all. If you have anything serious, you’ll wind up having to see another doctor for proper treatment or a referral to a specialist, and then you’ll pay double for having gone to Mettawee, first, so be smart. Use them for annual physicals, and prescription renewals for established medications, but take serious problems elsewhere.

Dr. Carl Beckler is my family Primary Care Physician and has provided excellent guidance and treatment for my family. I have found him to be thorough and recommends and reminds me to get follow up treatment or testing as necessary. He is a very good diagnostician and recently was able to identify a somewhat rare, in this part of the world, parasitic infection due to his thorough testing and follow up. I appreciate his professional and direct communication during my and my families visits. I would recommend Mettowee Valley Family Health and Dr. Beckler to any of my friends and relatives for any treatment of routine or less that critical needs. The clinic is not equipped to handle critical trauma and they will probably suggest the Rutland Regional Medical Center emergency room for those injuries or ailments they are not equipped to handle.

Multiple times receptionists have been rude and unprofessional, most recently being today. Which sucks when you're calling about health issues that are very personal in nature, which in turn makes them hard to discuss with GP. They also will only make restricted calls, which I don't feel comfortable answering. They have not granted my requests to ask for unrestricted calls. Stay far away of you want even minimal quality care for a health issue.
