I want to personally thank everyone at Carmel Hills. My grandma has had rehabilitation here, going on number 3. All of our family gets together every night and has dinner together. So when grandma has health issues we just cook and take dinner to Carmel Hills and they open their dinning room for us. This year was Thanksgiving.,not only did they open the dinning room ,they decorated it also. What a great care facility, they make us feel like a big family. This means more than they will ever know.THANK YOU

I started working at CHCC as a travel therapist and soon after agreed to come onboard as a full time therapist. I moved to CA with a plan to move on after my three month contract however I quickly realized this SNF was special and wanted to stay. The staff is warm and truly care about their coworkers and patients. I moved out of CA for personal reasons but if I was still living in the area, I would happily choose to work here. This is a place I would feel comfortable sending family members and loved ones

Carmel Hills Care Center is probably one of the better skilled nursing facilities in the area. This care center is located next door to Community Hospital of Monterey. This is a privately owned facility that is owned by the Bowersox family. Carmel Hills was founded in 1967 by Dr. Bowersox and a few of his medical associates. Carmel Hills is by no means perfect but for a care facility the director of nursing and the staff really do care. My Mother was a patient in Carmel Hills several years ago and my Aunt was also a patient here. Recently we had family friends who were patients at Carmel Hills and all of us feel that the patient care was pretty good. Travis who is in charge of physical therapy and the other therapists are amazing. They really give a damn about assisting their patients and helping them improve. This facility is definitely a good place for recovery when it's needed.

My wife, Grace just spent three weeks at Carmel Hills Care Center recovering from hip surgery. The care was beyond belief. It was excellent I can’t imagine a better place. They treat her like a princess. Someone was always available to take care of her needs. It’s very impressive because everybody has worked there for years. There are no new people! Nobody wants to be there, but if you need this type of care, this is the place to go to thank you so much for all the people that took care of Grace and gutter on the road to recovery.

It's true, theft is normal here. It's like a daily activity. I came from the Veterans Hospital for physical therapy right after my knee replacement. On my first hour here, Leticia went through my personal belongings. I thought it was just something they do. She took clothing, medical devices, t-shirts, polo shirts, things of value. All those things never came back. Though I did get a couple t-shirts, damaged and unwearable. I reported it to management. They said, well, she's been here 13 years. They actually accepted it. When I left, she was still happily working there. This place tolerates theft. Since most of the patients here are old and unaware, they thought I was one of them, incoherent and unaware what's happening around me. Surprise! I'm very aware of what's happening. Especially when someone steals my personal belongings. If you, or a loved one, comes here, do not bring anything of value. If you do, it will be stolen.

I was there for ~2week after back surgery. The team that worked with me were friendly, concerned and very helpful. I especially appreciated that as I improvement they stayed by but let me go at my very slow pace. The food was nutritious although not my favorite.(but I'm picky about food). Thanks to all in station 1.

Does not answer call button. I am writing this review to warn other caregivers, patients and family members that this facility is potentially dangerous. They are under staffed and not adequately responsive to give safe care. There is a reason why Community Hospital of Monterey (CHOMP) has a 3-star rating for them, not a 5-star, like similar facilities. My friend was admitted to Carmel Hills Care Center facility for recuperative care. We found that attendants were not responding to the call button in a timely way. Especially at night. During her stay she could not get timely access to her bronchial dilator / Inhaler. Although she has been a lifelong user, they would not let her have one at her bedside. During the late hours of the night, she went into respiratory distress and called for assistance. But no one answered her call button. Fortunately, she had presence of mind to call 911 for herself before she passed out. When the ambulance arrived, they found her unresponsive, blue and her call light was still on, unanswered. The staff at Carmel Hills were surprised to see the first responders at the facility. The ambulance people began to intubation on her but this precipitated cardiac arrest. Through immediate resuscitation, in the ambulance and at the ER, they brought her back. She is recovering well, but with broken ribs. If the above was not bad enough, my friend experienced additional problems while staying at this facility. She was not there two days when her iPhone was taken from the room and disappeared., She was totally bed ridden so it was not left somewhere as suggested by the staff. It was fortunate that I had replaced it quickly. At the end of her stay there, after she was taken to the hospital, the facility packed up her things to vacate the room. Missing were personal effects and since they took the iPhone earlier, they decided to also take her charger as well. I would like to see this facility investigated for safety.

My mother entered the facility April 3rd of last year. She was also a hospice patient. The care that Carmel Hill has provided to my mom has been exceptional. They helped her live her last days with dignity and grace. They were responsive to her needs, although she was somewhat non-communicative. She was bathed daily and cleaned up on a regular schedule. The staff has been more that accommodating to our family's requests. They are truly an exceptional group to work with. My experience with my mother being a resident here has all been very positive. I find that if you have a loved one here it is very important that you are present that you visit often and get to know the staff. The CNA's took very good care of my mother and communicated well with our private caregivers. They were always attentive to all her needs and worked as a team with our private caregivers. The Nurses were exceptionally caring by making sure my mother took her meds with chocolate pudding. The activities staff were enthusiastic and caring; the kitchen staff were attentive to my mother’s preferences in food. The entire staff is to be commended for the professional way they go about difficult job they have. Once again, I would say that if you do have a loved one in care anywhere you should visit them often. I think that really affects their care, when the staff knows that your loved one is not just being dropped off but instead they are still an active part of their family. My mother recently passed away April 13, 2022 she had dementia. For years, we care for her at home and as she progressed, we had to make that hard decision to place her here. We are so fortunate to have found this place for my mother, how all the staff took such great care of her. I want to thank the administration Carole Dorsey, RN Director of Nursing Services for accommodating our whole family to be able to see my mom on her last moments of life, and Thank you to all the staff for the kindness and wonderful care you showed for my mother. Although we are still grieving her passing, it is a comfort to know that she was at the right place being cared for by the right people. Thanks so much for taking great care of my mom.
