Joe has been instrumental in my recovery from several herniated discs. I had previously tried other physical therapists, but they were inattentive and ineffective at resolving my pain. They used typical blueprint methodologies that were not adjusted to the individual and only made my symptoms worse. Joe uses tools like cupping, FSM, and dry needling to help mediate your pain. But the real difference is how he teaches you to move differently to stop creating your pain and give your body time to heal. He identifies your specific causes and triggers and teaches you how to avoid them. This method is a very different approach from traditional physical therapy. By working on the source of the pain instead of just the symptoms, he is able to help you get out of pain and, most importantly, stay out of pain. In addition to back pain, he has also helped me with ankle pain and leg pain. There is no doubt in my mind that I would not have recovered from my injuries without his expertise.

My husband and I are retired and travel full time to places we can hike and backpack. About 6 years ago, I developed a right side neuropathy that caused weakness and nerve disruption from my neck to feet. I have been evaluated and treated by chiropractors and a neurologist without significant improvement. I found Dr. Joe Camisa (at Camisa Physical Therapy and Sports Rehab) after hearing a Peter Attia podcast with Stuart McGill. Dr. Joe changed my life! After a detailed physical assessment (which I never had before) I was diagnosed with sheering at the lumbar 5 vertebrae, as well as nerve entrapment in a variety of places. Through manipulation, exercises, nerve release protocols, massage, and, dry needling, I do not have the neuropathy. It feels like a miracle!!!! It is hard to find a skilled practitioner who is an expert in their work, but that is Dr. Joe. He is truly a talented and caring doctor that can guide you to wellness. I intend to see Dr. Joe for future assessments and tuneups to preserve my fitness and health. With Dr.Camisa, I feel better and stronger and fitter than I have in years! I HIGHLY recommend Camisa Physical Therapy to anyone who has been searching for relief and looking to stay strong.

Dr. Joe has treated me for a a little over a year now and I can just say I most definitely would not be where I am today without him. I have been to multiple physical therapy places throughout my athletic career so far and Camisa stood out the most by a long shot. The hands on and personalized experience is next level. The saying “your in good hands” applies when you have Dr. Joe to help you recover. All of the techniques and methods Dr. Joe uses is amazing. Would most definitely recommend this place to anyone trying to recover and improve their body.

After struggling with debilitating back pain for over a year, I was at my wit's end. Nothing I tried was providing lasting relief. Then, I found Joe. His methods, especially the dry needling, were unlike anything I'd experienced before. Within just a few sessions, my pain significantly reduced, and I'm now able to move without any discomfort. As a McGill Master Clinician, Joe's expertise is truly exceptional. He has a deep understanding of the body and knows exactly how to target the source of pain. If you're suffering from back pain or any form of injurypain , don't hesitate to contact Joe. He is the best therapist you would find in NJ/NY area.

I owe the Camisa physical therapy team a long overdue review and thanks. First, here is the deal with my back, Two years ago I started experiencing both upper (cervical) and lower (L4 through S1) back issues. I have seen quite a few doctors (mainly Pain Specialists and Orthopedists) and PT’s. Most of my chronic discomfort has been with my lower back and I have tried many different treatments, including trigger point injections, ESI’s and Ozone disc injections. Unfortunately, I was not getting better. Instead my Sciatica was getting worse. This past August I spoken to a leading NJ-based spine surgeon, and he recommended a spinal fusion for me. I went numb when he said that. In desperation I started to scour the internet for additional help. While doing this I learned about Dr Stuart McGill and his big three exercises. I got his book The Back Mechanic and read it cover to cover. I even thought of trying to schedule a visit with his in Canada. But then I read that it is tough to get appointments. Fortunately, I also read that Dr. McGill has certified a limited number of people in his discipline. I went to this web site and learned that there was a certified McGill clinician (Joe Camisa) about 20 minutes for my house. And BTW Congratulations to Joe recently becoming a Master Clinician. In September I scheduled a four-hour long McGill back assessment with Joe Camisa. At the end Joe gave me a very through written assessment, including an exercise program to perform. I have been working with Joe and his team since then, and have been making slow but stead progress. While the overall support I have been receiving has been great here are a few things that stand out.. 1. Joe and the other Physical therapist, Dr. Sarah, and exceptional PT’s on the table. They have a wide range of tools in their bag. As an example, Joe is terrific at dry needling. I have had several other people dry needle me and Joe is heads and shoulders above the rest. 3. Everyone’s back issues have their own wrinkles, and Joe and the team are very determined to create the right individual recovery program.

Camisa positively transformed my senior citizen husband’s mobility, back pain and posture. He has made tremendous progress with Camisa Physical Therapy and Sports Rehabilitation Center. He has attended almost 7 months 3 times a week. We commend Joe, Sara, Dan and Caitlyn for their knowledge, professionalism, dedication and encouragement; Tara, too! He has regained his self confidence! We are grateful!

For years I suffered from lower back and hip pain. I’d been to many physical therapists and chiropractors but the pain persisted. I’d been told I had two misaligned vertebrae and a pelvis that was off center. I met with Dr. Joe Camisa on April 1 for an extensive evaluation. I was very impressed with his skills and knowledge of body mechanics. Joe has treated me the past 8 weeks and I am finally feeling better. His therapeutic treatments are extremely effective and my improvements have been steady. He’s taught me so much about spinal hygiene and what movements to avoid and how I can make small changes in my daily activities to avoid injury. I highly recommend Camisa Physical Therapy. The staff is friendly and professional and the facility is clean and leading edge.

After battle back pain for 3 years I finally found someone that actually know how the back works. Joe was able to diagnose my injury and explain to me the movement patterns that will trigger my pain. Joe is an expert in the Stuart McGill method in fixing back pain. This method shows you alternative movement patterns you can use so you can function in everyday life. A big focus is also on strengthening the core. Most physical therapy usually use exercises like crunches and other movements that require spinal bending which makes back pain worse. Joe uses the McGill big 3 exercise which do not load or bend the spine and they also teach your body how to recruitment muscle in your core so you are more stable and strong. Joes dry needling method is a fantastic way to get out of pain and also help activate other muscle that are need to help support the back. Every month my pain was getting better and better and my body was able to move in a way that it used to before my injury. Joes methods help my body get out of pain but it also showed me the proper technique when it comes to exercise. My family thought I was crazy driving 2 hours each way just to go to physical therapy. But now I’m pain free and back to lifting weights and playing sports again. Camisa physical therapy is the only place I would recommend for someone for therapy because it actually works.
