Michelle Varty was wonderful in her approach, never judged and kept it very professional. When I first signed up I didn't expect much but she exceeded expectations. The information I've received while being counseled by Michelle is something that I can carry-on in my career and also be used in life skills. Anyone who wants to start a career , get information about starting your own business, or maybe finding the right trade that fits your personality. Give DOR a try it will be well worth it!

Save yourselves the time. Unless your willing to take ANY job, its not worth getting help from this office. The same applies to school. If your on SSI/SSD, or recieve other monetary subsidy ( fixed income ) you can apply for FAFSA, BOG, grants, and scholarships to help with the cost of attending a community college. You honestly dont need CDR to help with this as there are academic college counselors who can do this with you. CDR will not contribute toward any cost ( since you may qualify for the aforementioned programs to cover tuition cost ) unless its for uniforms or supplies. Those essentials however can be purchase on your own and be reimbursed by SSA or the County so long as you provide reciepts ( trust me its much easier doing it this way ). Honestly theyre a waste of time. Yes, they helped me with gas money. The reason; to keep me quiet because they had no intent on sending me to school. They even made some repairs to my car; but nothing to the extent they claimed as I had my vehicle inspected by the dealership, not too long after the last repair. Mechanics cited many of the parts on the car including transmission were original parts as all original transmissions have serial numbers that match with the engine as well as the VIN. Manufacturers do this partly to identify whether a part has been replaced or if the vehicle was stolen and stripped of parts, LE can easily match those parts if later found. My car went kapoot not long after. They felt that i shouldve taken a minimum wage job so that I would no longer be homeless ( sleeping in my car ). Once I estalished a job I could then enroll myself into a trade course. They ignored the fact that part of my disability is intellectual along with being legally deaf. I couldnt work and focus on school. I knew that I would need to focus entirely and solely on school in order to successfully complete the course of choice. They also used a prior conviction that I had expunged over 20 yrs ago to delay any approval in sending me to a private trade school ( yes they will make certain exceptions ). At the end of the day I realized no matter how determined I was, I fought my hardest, and still lost. I understood their perspective of things and what they wanted. However, as a client, I had a plan of action. I had goals and that is what I went pursuing. Ultimately it was a total fail. My advice. Do as much as you can on your own. Only go to CDR when you feel youve exhausted all your leads and resources to no avail. CDR goal is to quickly get clients in and out, closing your case as a success even though your goals werent met in full.
