Don’t send loved ones here. They are very disorganized, dirty, and slow to do anything, they are not attentive/understaffed (?) just not a good place. My mom layed in her bed for two hours with her colostomy bag broken open because they lost the key to the supply closet. I ran home to get her own supplies and when I got back they were barely cleaning her up. Sad. I have also called 4 times trying to get information about her and no one calls back when they keep telling me they’ll call back. The social worker, the doctor, I can’t get a call back from anyone. I just wouldn’t send anyone here. It’s also very run down. In addition, the first day she was there, I tried to call and they told me she wasn’t there, when in fact she was they didn’t even know they had her. I am also trying to have a doctors office contact them so they can help me with her medication and they can get a hold of the right people either.

If your doctor places you here or in other sub standard "skilled nursing' facilities ---RUN. There is no amount of positive reviews that pepper this page that will change the fact that this facility and many others like it need to be investigated and either closed or managed by a completely different Company: Understaffed sloppy dirty unorganized awful food bad nutrition no accessibility to doctors Visiting a friend here was an eye opening, devastating and disheartening experience. We spent the entire time our friend was placed here trying to get him out. There is no doubt in our minds he most likely would have died in this place. I have a friend who almost died here and another whose father did die here- both resulting from lack of attention and care. Unable to communicate well, delusional and unwell, our friend recently placed here- could barely feed himself. The food is awful and the diet he was on was completely irresponsible. You would think in a place like Santa Barbara the corporation could at the very least have good cooks, good healthy nutrition and best practices. Other patients who couldn't adequately feed themselves were not assisted. Additionally, the food given to our friend was unsuitable for someone with his condition. As soon as his family was able to move him out of state, a list of drugs were removed from his program and his mind is improving slowly. There needs to be an investigation into this facility ... and many others. This is shameful.

I am a former RN and now a clinical social worker. I know the difference between quality and sub-standard. Staff ignored my light for two hours. The PT rolled his eyes when I asked him to get help. I left 'against doctor's order' because I had friends who could work out times to come to my apartment and help me. What a relief to leave that place.

Don’t believe the pictures. The place is falling apart and everyone is either frantically overworked or pretending they don’t hear patients who are literally screaming. I actually heard one aide say - that’s not my patient - while sitting at the desk listening to a person yelling for help. Unbelievable and potentially harmful. They didn’t notice my family member had stopped recovering from a bacterial infection. If family wasn’t there no one would have gotten him back to the hospital for additional treatment, since the head nurse was busy saying how well he was doing despite the returned fever and increasing incoherence he demonstrated. When asked about why his WBC was actually worse (outside doctor ordered the test, they don’t have a doctor or PT on staff), she said older people are always going up and down with recovery. Well, the ER Doctor certainly didn’t agree all was fine when we insisted he be taken in for evaluation. The only way to actually get him out to the hospital was to have have his Doctor call 2 times and absolutely insist. They clearly didn’t want to lose a paying customer too quickly. He was readmitted to the hospital for another 4 days. He probably would have died if he hadn’t gone since the infected organ showed rapid growth of infected lesions had occurred.

My mom is in there. When I first read the reviews I was scared & panicky & wanted to get her out immediately. As time went by & I saw how the staff was taking care of her & she is healing so well. The staff is extre Nice! They do their absolute best & I haven’t had one bad experience with any of them. Granted, the place itself is not as immaculate as a palace, or mission terrace, but the people who work there are amazing & im at peace, knowing God is in control. My mom is 90yr old & was in a head on collision on the 154 March 7th 2022 (this year), she was taken to cottage hospital with a broken neck, broken sternum, 5 broken ribs, & a smashed ankle bone. The ankle was reconstructed, but all else has to heal on it’s own. She’s doing great & is on her way to get better so she can be home soon. I know the Living God of our Universe has everything to do with that! But He is definitely working through all the staff at Buena Vista. They all are so kind to her & go above & beyond to help her. I don’t know why past reviews here are so negative… I also don’t want to undermine anyones experience that might not have been good, & my deepest condolences go to those people. What I do know is my own experience. I know that if we place God first in our lives & look to Him for everything, He will impress hearts & heal His children. With that being said, I’m happy mom is here, & that she’s getting better every day. Thank you staff for always being so kind when we see you a& most importantly for taking such good care of my mom. This place is sorely lacking appropriate staffing among other issues. I met two nurses who were kind and compassionate, nurses aids frequent speaking Spanish in front of patients and calling patients “Honey” not addressing them by name. I had a friend transferred here from Cottage hospital for “ step down” nursing care. During her stay I visited many times usually every other day. I found her incoherent extremely dehydrated on two occasions necessitating emergency admissions and stays in Cottage Hospital. Her room was shabby, bathroom dirty plumbing backed up,!bed control not working, her clothing dirty or missing New clothing “lost” clothing and a pair of new shoes covered in feces in her closet among clean clothing. A hand made Afghan disappeared, along with personal down pillows, her ID and her debt card and denture, which was replaced by the facility. I complained filed a report, my complaint was dismissed “no finding of the complaint. I would avoid putting Anyone in this facility.

My experience working with Buena Vista’s admissions department has been a great one. They were quick to answer all my questions and they were very thorough explaining the process in getting my loved one admitted to the facility. I highly recommend Buena Vista!

I was about ready to cash it all in! I had suffered three strokes, a heart attack, and open heart surgery. I could not walk or write. I had lost all hope. I was down to 99 pounds and could not eat. I had been in another ( bad) facility- Evergreen in Long Beach. However, when I got to Buena Vista Care Center Scott Entwistle, my therapist, got me laughing for the first time in over five months. He was so kind and caring! He made me want to be able to walk and write. He would wave at me while I struggled to learn how to write again! His smile was electric! He spoke softly and carried a big stick! His personality was so warm, thoughtful, and intelligent. When I succeeded in being able to take a few steps on my own, he said," Way to go," and cracked me up so that I wanted to walk in order to get his positive response. I would not have been able to recover without Buena Vista's excellent therapy and positive atmosphere. I owe them and Scott my life! Thank you so much!
