We have used Athens Rehab for my Dad after his last 2 surgeries. They have very caring and comprehensive during both of his recoveries. Lory and her team were so helpful negotiating admission and the insurance quagmire. They made a difficult situation and his transition from the hospital as seamless as possible. The nurses and PT staff took exceptional care of Dad and worked very had to make sure he was comfortable and we were well informed of his progress. I highly recommend the team at Athens Rehabilitation, and thank them so much for their caring and compassion towards my dad and us all.

It's a difficult place to be in when your elderly family member needs short term care. If you are searching for a place as we were, you probably see the same themes at several places in North AL... It's just industry wide challenges of finding qualified staff and retaining them. The ratios of RN and CNA to patients was not ideal here. The PT was adequate and most of them were very professional and encouraging. The food would keep you alive if you had to eat it. A few meals were good. I'd say 80% of the staff were very caring, but just entirely overworked due to aforementioned ratios. The best you can do is choose a location nearby where you can be there many hours daily. Be nice and gracious to these overworked caregivers and your loved one will get the best that can be expected given the situation. And be sure to bring in at least one meal a day so your loved one can eat something good. Pick up something for the nurses too.. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

Where to start! Flee from thee. I’ve never seen so much incompetence in my life. There are some really good people that are attentive and care but some like the Director of Nursing smokes all day and is just collecting a paycheck, totally shouldn’t be caring for nothing but a dog. The Director is not seasoned enough to be running such a facility at this capacity. Discharge day was a cluster, completely rushed out the door with very little information on how to care for our loved one. Definitely Understaffed but I see why cause the powers at be pushes them out due to favoritism and no management skills. I was in awe a lot of times and totally afraid for my mom. I would definitely give this place a hard pass and do your research before placing your family member in any nursing facility.

I will echo what another reviewer posted and take it further: I wouldn't put my worst enemy's dog here. My mother was in this facility after a brain bleed and while the CNAs and nursing staff tried their best, the patient to staff ratio was just too much. She wouldn't get a bath or shower for days. No one was available to prepare her food. Ex: given a large piece of uncut meat that she couldn't cut herself. She would just not eat if a family member was not there with her. One of the PTs was an absolute nightmare and did not treat her with any level of respect. No care, no compassion. The director of the facility is a joke. We had a meeting with an advocate and he spoke out both sides of his face. Nothing but broken promises. He needs to learn to take care of his staff and his patients because he isn't doing his job. His staff and patients deserve better than this man is delivering. It's disgraceful. Meds are handled improperly. They were given a directive not to give her ambien at night but come to find out she was given ambien along with a narcotic several nights and was barely conscious the next day. When the nurse was asked about it she stated the mix of meds could be deadly. Do not put your family here!!

My mom has been here for several months my sister i have seen mistreatment everyday hands on abuse.she can't defend herself she is at the mercy of family to stay around the clock to watchso she can feel safe. Also she suffered a brokenshoulder hip had to have surgery i can go on . This place needs to be investigated and monitored . There's nothing about this place that says you can be better off there.......

PLEASE THINK TWICE BEFORE PLACING YOUR LOVED ONE HERE!! Look at the dinner menu. How many evenings do you eat sandwich? Roms are so small & cramped not room for a chair to sit in. No private rooms avail(they say they have them but they are full)Staff seems capable, but over worked or just S-L-O-W to react! I was horrified when I visited!! And I have been in many nursing homes!! Looking for another pace asap!! Oh, the GOOD RATINGS ARE FROM EMPLOYEES...just WRONG! Tells you the king of place this is!!

We placed my 94 year old dad at Athens Health and Rehab after a 2 week stay in the hospital to help regain his strength and mobility. Every person I met was kind and courteous and treated my dad with respect. The physical therapy, occupational therapy, medication management by Dennis, nurses care and social worker were instrumental in my dad being able to regain his strength and mobility and upon discharge, the social worker, Tammie, helped us decide the best plan forward through discussions and presenting options. I was very impressed with this facility and recommend it to anyone seeking excellent care for a loved one or themselves.

My grandmother is living in this facility at the moment. She fell last August and hasn’t been able to take care of herself since. My mother has no current help with visiting and checking up on her needs. She currently works in Huntsville and lives in Tennessee. I live at the beach about six hours away. The staff makes sure me and my mom know she is well taken care of! Specifically, a wonderful lady by the name of Lory Walmsley. She is the absolute best! She takes time out of her day to let me know my grandmother is doing well. She even sneaks in a FaceTime from time to time. She doesn’t have to do any of that. Lory goes beyond what is asked to make me and my mother feel comfort when we can’t be there. I don’t know if you’ll see this, but thank you from the bottom of my heart! You are a treasure at the Athens Rehab and Nursing Home facility.
